Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
I did wonder about the 50s stuff. I wonder how Sony choose which tapes to issue to these third parties. You'd think that with the massive 2007 remastering program that they would have sent out instructions to only use these as the latest unless a later remaster or tape was found.

Doesn't look like the UK HDTracks has added any more releases

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
I don't know with hdtracks.com but in Qobuz the flac files are compressed at level 5 or 6 I think.
At hdtracks I only take wav so I can't say if they are compressed or not.
Does somebody download from hdtracks in Flac? Can somebody give an exact size of a flac songs at hdtracks.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Flac compression doesn't affect the sound quality at all. It's a lossless codec.
It only affects the size of the files when they are not in use. It takes a little longer to encode the files if they are highly compressed but they take up less space.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Has anyone got For LP Fans Only and Elvis For Everyone. I've read a review that indicates both of these albums are not using mono masters for the mono tracks, but instead using the tapes as per original release, ie Electronic Stereo. Also can anyone give the number of tracks for The Essential Elvis Presley as although it is listed on HDTracks UK Site, it does not give any details as it cannot be bought in the UK. Cheers

Mono tracks are mono.
Some songs have more reverb, (Memphis Tennessee, For The Millionth And The Last Time) than the drier current sources used.
For LP Fans Only:
Some songs are from older sources (Poor Boy, You're A Hartbreaker, Let Me and I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine)
I'm only aware of one release that presents the album as it originally sounded and that's the Speaker's Corner vinyl.

For The Essentials Elvis there is 2 CD with 20 tracks each.
For From Elvis in Memphis I would say it's really great

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
I thought FEIM was excellent . It sounds very clean and tight with clear instrumentation although I've only dipped my toe into it on the tracks. These HD recordings are not like the difference between black and white over normal CDs, but you can perceive an edge, well for my ears anyway. Younger ears may perceive more. I'll be playing the whole thing tomorrow along with Back In Memphis and several others that I have recently got.

Thanks Phil. I think this was released in 2007/08, so any ideas if it uses the 2007 masters?Phil wrote:For The Essentials Elvis there is 2 CD with 20 tracks each.

I don't think so.emjel wrote:Thanks Phil. I think this was released in 2007/08, so any ideas if it uses the 2007 masters?Phil wrote:For The Essentials Elvis there is 2 CD with 20 tracks each.
I may me wrong but I think that everything that has been released before the release of the Complete masters doesn't uses the 2007 masters.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
"From Elvis In Memphis".. Well, it benefits from the HD attributes, like all the others. It sounds very good indeed, the best we can get so far for sure. However, the difference between the recent Legacy edition at 16/44.1 and the HD at 24/96 is not as pronounced as other HD albums in my collection. It is very good, but it is not a "night and day" type thing. The difference is subtle, it is in the general atmosphere, the openness of the soundstage and the separation of the instruments.Phil wrote:For The Essentials Elvis there is 2 CD with 20 tracks each.
For From Elvis in Memphis I would say it's really great
"NBC TV Special".
It has been many years since I listened to this in this format, but the live sit down / stand up shows benefit the least and the studio recorded segments do show a marked improvement, but it reveals equipment hum and tape hiss, especially at the first bars of say "Nothingville", but once the drums kick in it sounds great. All of track (after a the start of "Nothingville") 6 is super, really great, best I have ever heard it for sure.
I was more aware of the bass guitar in the live segments, but again, that me because I have not listened to this in years opting always to watch it instead.
Cuts and edits really show up, but that may not be anything to to with it being in HD, just my being so used to watching the DVD without these cuts an edits.
Of all the HD albums I have, these 2 show the least improvement from the 16/44.1 (CD rips) I already own.
I am not sorry I have them, because there is some improvement, just not as much as others.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Just an FYI, it looks like Ponomusic has the same albums that Qobuz has which will be helpful for those of us in the US. I'm counting approximately 41 albums between HDTracks and Ponomusic which is awesome. Only down side to this point is there aren't many 70's albums yet but hopefully in the coming months. TTWII deluxe in 24 bit would be unreal. I'm starting to acquire a lot of 24 bit stuff now even though my system isn't that great. Someday

You can vote for an upgraded release on Ponomusic. I don't know if it has any relevance but it would be nice if public opinion mattered.

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Ponomusic has the complete Elvis at Stax album in HiRes. To my knowledge, Qobuz doesn't have it at all and HDtracks only has the edited version.
Hopefully, the full album will be released on HDtracks or Qobuz, too, one day.

Very frustrating indeed. Unfortunately, there is no way of accessing Ponomusic without a US credit card (and location).

Re: Elvis In Hi-Res Audio (24/96)
Maybe we should start emailing HDTracks and Qobuz just to let them know there is an interest outside of the USA. Not sure why HDTracks charge much more than Qobuz.
