Great great news! I just called the Elvisinfonet office and spoke with the gentleman who was able to help! All the sessions on the new FTD Guitar Man set are all unedited! All unedited and I even asked him about the short Prisoner's Song jam and he said that is all included. This site said it is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Now we all can be convinced. They are all experts! We are all excited!

Whatever the case may be, this is a must have. And a lot of completely unreleased audio is there, which should convince even the naysayers and critics.

No chance they’d be able to make money on about half a disc of underwhelming material.

Re: Guitar Man - The Sessions 1967-68 New FTD Set. Summer 2024
I was a bit intrigued by the sub-discussion in regards to "The Prisoner's Song". I understand that the lyrics are offensive and don't want to stirr this up any more.
Yet, I found a quite old website with entries from 2001-2004 where the song was discussed and it wasn't based on anything Elvis. What I found interesting was to see that it was obviously a vehicle to a sheer endles number of parodies in several environments, ranging from home singing, school yards and even military. It seems that the base of the melody and lyrics was used numerous times for crude texts. There is even a version including the "...corn hole the man in the moon" line.
The differrent versions seem to range back to the early 1960es, 1940es and if I got it right there was also mention of 1880.
I was wondering if Elvis might have picked his version up somewhere instead of macking it up on the spot (like I had assumed prior). If so, who might have been the source for this and was it rather recently or dating back to his youth? Did he learn this as a kid? Was it a local version known to people in Tupelo?
Again, I'm not looking to upset anyone but I am really curious to understand where this particular and rather strange moment was based in (aside from too much intake of pharmaceuticals during these sessions).
For those interested in the lyric variants I've mentioned earlier from the old website here's the link I found:

Have no interest in the prisoners song....Much more interested in all the other tracks. Have had the prisoners song in my collection for the last 30 years and I think I played it once. Time to move on from this subject, It was all covered & discussed 3 decades ago.

Would have been easy to include this session on an additional CD 6:Markus K. wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2024 10:10 pmFor "Stay away, Joe" fans only!
Takes 1, 3-6 and the anouncement for take 7, all officially unreleased.
Stay away, Joe (Takes1,3-6+Announcement for 7).mp3
Takes 2, 8 and 9 (all also previously unreleased) would be full versions with take 2 being pretty rough for this first complete runthrough.
Takes 10-17 are featured on the "Stay away, Joe" FTD with the exception of takes 11+14, which are totally unreleased.
Take 17 is the movie master.
Takes 18-19 are totally unreleased.
The master of the record version is take 2 with an additional added intro part spliced in.
Stay Away, Joe

All I Needed Was The Rain
Stay Away
Going Home
Stay Away, Joe (Almost In Love version)
All I Needed Was The Rain (movie version)
Complete Session
I am afraid, a kind of CD 6 might accompany a book „Making of Stay Away, Joe“

I've no doubt Elvis' ribald version of "The Prisoner's Song" was something he'd heard in any number of instances where he's be jamming with friends, or colleagues. Think about all those days in the road in 1955, with a variety of performers, such "good ol' boy" humor would not be uncommon.

The two songs highlighted already appear in the upcoming sessions set.
Again, no way would anyone green-light a half-full sixth CD for extremely inconsequential studio outtakes.

I think you may be on to something here. My wish was that the soundtrack including the sessions would have been included in the Guitar Man session set. I understand the reasons that they were left out though. I don't have the Stay away Joe FTD CD and it is currently quite expensive on Ebay. I don't even have the songs Stay Away Joe and All I Needed Was the Rain in my collection in any form. Maybe I will buy the soundtrack double features CD with the Stay away Joe songs just to get those songs.

There's a copy right now of Stay Away, Joe (FTD) on eBay for $79, not bad for a 2013 collector's label limited release.

Also, there will never be a "Making of 'Stay Away, Joe" book by FTD or anyone else.

Happy to help with the FTD title. It's as good as it gets for the material on one disc.
As for a book, I cannot fathom how the project could fill hundreds of pages. It was a poor, failed, unfunny comedy. Elvis looked good though.

This is one set I will be buying. However, I don't need to hear The Prisoner's Song as part of it.
