The article appeared in the March 24, 1958 edition of the Park City Daily News.
Remember, Elvis had two hair-cuts during the last week up to his induction.

Unless my old eyes are deceiving me, they looked different from the photo's taken a day later with his parents.

this is an awsome rare pic, but to me it looks like 1960-1961 ish. Looks like when he came HOME from the army, not going in.

Funky, it's hard to tell if the sideburns look so much different from the next day. I agree that his hair in the neck does look fuller in this photo but it might just be the darkness in the photo.

thankyouverymuch...and thanks for the awsome Ft Chaffee article scan. I am the Museum coordinator at the Chaffee Barbershop Museum & am always looking for any scrap of material related to Elvis' stay here. The son of the barber comes out each year on March 25th & gives GI haircuts in the same barbershop in 1958. He also has the clippers, scissors & barber-cape - but wont part with them.

Funky made me aware that the jacket Elvis wore in the two photos was not the same and I think he is right. The "cut" in the "collar" seems to be different.
My guss is that the smaller close-up photo is from the morning of March 19 since it appeared in the evening paper of March 19. It could of course also be from one of the previous days.

Hilton, I was about to post this very clip earlier today but had to log out.
Anyway, the photo accompanying the article is an alternate to the ones we already know from this date of Elvis and Anita Wood outside the Plymouth showroom.
Here's the two shots that are almost identical.

You might have them dated as March 19, 1958 but I believe they are from the 18th even though the Miami News was an evening newspaper. I have a copy of an APWirephoto which mention that Elvis and Anita

walk from a local auto agency where they looked at new automobiles late today

The words "late today" made me date the photos as March 18 and I am almost certain that the date on the wirephoto says March 18 although it's almost impossible to be sure.

About the date, i know a very good site - the owner is a guy named Brian - and the date is March 19. Now, i'm a little confuse, i'm sure all the photos are taken in the same day (single and with Anita), but is March 18 or 19?

I just changed the name of the topic so we can post some more photos from Elvis' 10 days at home in Memphis prior to his army induction.
Elvis drove in from Dallas about 6:30 p.m. on March 14 and either that very evening or the next mornig he was out on his motorcycle as seen in this photo.

and read

I thought they were Funky, but I'm not so sure now
The face, hair and sideburns look the same and there's even the tree in the background.
BUT, I took a closer look at the jacket and the cut in the "collar" is not the same.

Though the article was published in the Miami afternoon paper March 19th (see also viewtopic.php?f=8&t=50782&),
the API photo's are indeed from the day before. According to fanclub president Ms Ayers from Little Rock, Elvis had a haircut
(his second in a week) that afternoon (March 18th).

I think he looked awesome !

Well guys, I think it's about time we take another look at Elvis' last days at home prior to his induction as new evidence has come forth.

As mentioned by E-Cat in the previous post the photo below is not from the 19th. It appeared in morning papers on the 19th so it has to be from the 18th.
Actually, Elvis had his hair cut on the 17th and not the 18th. It was mentioned in the Memphis Press Scimitar on March 18.

Then there is the question about the photos of Elvis and Anita Wood outside an auto agency which I first had as being from the 19th but then changed to the 18th.
I have now found a newspaper article mentioning that they

Next up is the photo of KERNEL Elvis which we had dated as being from the 19th as the date on the proclamation is the 19th. Although Elvis was commissioned a "KERNEL" on the 19th newspaper clipping from this date mention that

A plaque so stating will be presented by the Variety Club in the singer's hometown of Memphis later this week

So is this Elvis on March 20th, 22nd or 23rd?? I've dated is as being from the 20th.

And then we have the clipping which started this whole topic about three months ago. I just found a new clipping from March 22 and even though it's from an evening paper I believe the photo is from the afternoon of March 21.
