A Happy Birthday, Elvis! You're so much more than just "quite a singer" to me.
Always Elvis on my mind

Aye. But DJC's remark is a little reference pertaining to the advert.Monique wrote:A Happy Birthday, Elvis! You're so much more than just "quite a singer" to me.
25 ... 50 ... 75
Each of those is a milestone, but EP didn't make it to the second. Gives one pause.
Happy 75th, Elvis! Thanks for the music -- and so much more!

I remember the 50th birthday in 1985 so clear. Hard to fathom he would have been 75 already.

I am old enough to remember the 30th B-Day in 1965(ouch).
Seems one of the teen shows at that time(Shindig or Hulabaloo)had a special birthday tribute to Elvis that year.
Anyway,Happy Birthday Elvis!

Thanks for all the nice posts, and good eye, Cryo.
Has anyone seen the 1968 SINGER ad before? Isn't is cool?
It was "Shindig!" and actually went down a few months after the actual birthday.
Shindig!
ABC-TV: Wednesday, May 5, 1965
"Songs associated with Elvis Presley"
Presented by:
The Chambers Brothers
Glen Campbell
Willie Nelson
Jimmy Boyd
Sonny & Cher
Linda Gail Lewis
Ray Peterson
The Blossoms
The Wellingtons
Marcia Galva (dancing to "Hey Memphis")
Here's Jerry Lee Lewis' 18 year-old sister, Linda Gail:
..
Linda Gail Lewis with the Shindogs - "Don't Be Cruel" (excerpt)
..
Linda Gail Lewis (introduced by host Jimmy O'Neill) - "Crying In The Chapel"
BONUS!
House band the Shindogs included Glen Hardin on keyboards and James Burton on lead guitar:
..
The Shindogs - "Ticket To Ride" (May 26, 1965)
Check out that Fender Telecaster!

Nicely done. What better way to make the day than some NBC-TV Special material.drjohncarpenter wrote:January 8, 1935 --> Happy 75th Birthday, Elvis!

Indeed.
At his best, Elvis Presley is THE BEST.
The NBC-TV Special (June 1968) is Elvis at his best.

Re: January 8, 1935 --> Happy 75th Birthday, Elvis!
Nice post, DJC.
I often times find something "new to me" in your posts.
Really enjoyed the Shindig! clips.
I had no idea that Jerry Lee had a sister in the entertainment field.
You can see a similarity around their mouths.
I wonder how the Killer felt about his kid sis' paying homage to Elvis?
James looks pretty cool, if not somewhat out of place, in his "mod" clothes.
I prefer the college prep look with Ricky Nelson, but lots of fun.
Thanks for taking the time to send us something new.

Re: January 8, 1935 --> Happy 75th Birthday, Elvis!
Nice advert - I don't see it enough.
What a treat to see a good deal of Turner Movie Classics (TMC) broadcast of ELVIS ON TOUR tonight on primetime (following a nice retrospective on Fox) , and now TTWII, which is on as we speak. Priscilla and Jerry Schilling were guests as commentators between the movies.
We put on THIS IS ELVIS (the DVD) and watch big portions of it. and it lives up to Dave Marsh's rave about it from many years ago.I l always enjoyed that film - faults and all.
