When was this photo taken & who is the girl?

Does anyone know when this picture was taken. It looks like a Christmas photo. Also who is the girl?

Christmas 1957, December 25 or 26. This is a photo from a book by Jim Curtin, "Christmas with Elvis", i think. I'm not at home right now, but i'll be back with a scan, soon.

Actually the photos are from December 27 as Elvis didn't get his draft deferment until this date and that's the date (March 20) the girls are pointing to in the photo.

I know that Day-by-Day says that he got his deferment on December 26 but the earliest newspaper clippings I can find were printed in evening papers of December 27 and states that

Elvis Presley received a 60-day draft deferment today

This goes for the Memphis Press Scimitar as well.

Here's a newspaper clipping from Long Beach Press Telegram December 28, 1957 stating that the Draft Board notified Elvis on Friday (Dec 27).

So, the photo above is from December 27, 1957.

December 25, 1957, Graceland. Elvis with Hannerl Melcher (she meet Elvis in October 1957, when he was in Vegas) and her friend Cathy Gabriel.

Hannerl Melcher was 1957's Miss Vienna and Miss Austria.

Hannerl met Elvis in Las Vegas that November, and visited Graceland at Christmastime with her roommate, Kathy Gabriel, who was 1957's Miss Ohio at the "Miss USA" contest.

Hannerl was Austria's representative in the "Miss Universe" pageant. Both contests were held July 19 in Long Beach, CA. Hard to believe, but neither girl won their respective titles.

Elvis gave Hannerl a specially-autographed copy of his Loving You LP:

A couple of years later, the lovely Ms. Melcher did nab a bit part in "G.I. Blues" -- as the strolling singer during one of Tulsa's dates with Lili (Juliet Prowse). Check it out!

No, this is from the one and only Christmas at 1034 Audubon in Memphis a year earlier.



Gladys, Dottie Harmony, Vernon, Elvis - Memphis, December 1956

That's the lovely Dorothy "Dottie" Harmony with Elvis and his parents. He met her in Las Vegas during his November 1956 vacation -- where was Marilyn Evans? -- and he invited her to spend the Christmas holiday. She did, and stayed until Elvis headed off to New York almost exactly 53 years ago, to perform for the last time on the Ed Sullivan program.

Dottie was one of author Peter Guralnick's most insightful interviews for his landmark 1994 Presley biography, Last Train To Memphis: The Rise Of Elvis Presley. He spent a LONG time trying to find her -- she apparently lives quietly in California these days. It was worth the effort.
