Polk Salad Annie
I saw Elvis live in concert the year before he died. Even then, he was bigger than life, and had amazing charisma. Haven't seen anything like it since, ....until Adam.........Nocturnal 2010

Mine at the moment is the one that I got just today, His Hand In Mine.
All the Classic Albums I have are my favorites just for the package alone.

(Studio) ELVIS IS BACK! for its impeccible song selection and sound ( the mastering by Sebastian Jeansson is comparable to the out-of-print DCC pressing which features the work of the always phenomenal Steve Hoffman).
(Live) ALL SHOOK UP for an electrifying 1969 performance with Elvis in top form throughout.

Re: favourite ftd
I have about 30 favorite FTD's but 'TOO MUCH MONKEY BUSINESS' is definitely not one of them Still i have no problem with this CD. I've bought it about 2 years ago quite cheaply and it was better than i expected.

Re: favourite ftd
It's my least favorite, of all the FTD releases. It was a poor idea on RCA in 1981, and time has not added any allure to Felton Jarvis's experiment.rockinray wrote:my favourite ftd release is TOO MUCH MONKEY BUSINESS . i love the new backings on most of the tracks. my favourite track is YOU ASKED ME TO the guitar work on it is fantastic. anyone know if there is anymore of these alternative recordings?
There are unused tracks around, but not enough for a sequel on FTD.

As always the answer to questions like this can be found on Keith Flynn's website.
Specifically, in this case:

Re: favourite ftd
I think it's harsh that google.com gets a bum rap. It is different from all other albums and not everyone's cup of tea. However, the intention was never to improve the tracks but just to bring the tracks up to date and to sound more fresh and modern in the early 80's. I think that Felton achieved his goal and the tracks do sound different.
So long as these versions do not make it onto hits packages where the general public may view these as the norm then I cannot see what the problem is.
The early 80's remakes are all part of the Elvis legacy and had a right to be included as an FTD. For a newcomer to Elvis collecting, much better to have the google.com FTD than another soundboard.
My favourite FTD by the way is........
Jungle Room Sessions

Re: favourite ftd
Right now it would be a toss up between His Hand In Mine and Pot Luck. In a few weeks it will be Memphis, Tennessee.

Re: favourite ftd
This is a very interesting CD, and I hear it from time to time... Some of the songs are really annoying, but others ("If You talk in your Sleep", "Too Much Monkey...") are quite enjoyable.KingElvis wrote:wow didnt see that title comingrockinray wrote:my favourite ftd release is TOO MUCH MONKEY BUSINESS . i love the new backings on most of the tracks. my favourite track is YOU ASKED ME TO the guitar work on it is fantastic. anyone know if there is anymore of these alternative recordings?

Of course, there to say it's my favourite FTD, it would be miles and miles away.
BTW, My favourite FTD is Memphis Sessions.

My favourite was always One Night In Vegas, but now the new version of That's The Way It Is has emerged as a strong challenger!

Re: favourite ftd
i've got this cd and its not one of my favorites but this is what i did, and i know rob aint here any more but im gonna state i did this for my own personal use. I burned on the tracks that were on the original Guitar Man album and put them in the same sequence they were on the album so i could go back to 81'. the weird thing was it just wasnt the same now as it was back in 81'. in 81' i enjoyed the Guitar Man LP but now it just aint the same.rockinray wrote:my favourite ftd release is TOO MUCH MONKEY BUSINESS . i love the new backings on most of the tracks. my favourite track is YOU ASKED ME TO the guitar work on it is fantastic. anyone know if there is anymore of these alternative recordings?

Re: favourite ftd
My theory on that is it's not the same because it's not '81 and for the most part the new musical backings were so '80s. I really enjoyed the album back then, too. But not so much now. I wish they would have left the original running order intact and added the bonus tracks at the end.
