Amy on Elvis
From the SUN newspaper:
The Rehab singer also revealed she has been sobbing her heart out to ELVIS.
She said: “I’ve been listening to loads of songs. I sob my heart out to Elvis’s She’s Not You. I’ve got a song for every occasion.”

How does Elvis find any time to have fun in Heaven?
"Don't tell me to play it. I will when I get ready. Do you understand me?"

According to The Bible, the dead are just dead for now.
Come Armageddon, the final battle between Good & Evil, everyone who ever lived will be judged, with the righteous joining God in Heaven.
Of course, that presupposes that Good wins that battle.............................

I strongly recommend you listen to Hank Williams' recording of Battle Of Armageddon.ColinB wrote:Err.................................. no.Spellbinder wrote:Is that where he is?elvisjock wrote:How does Elvis find any time to have fun in Heaven?

Re: Amy on Elvis
The band in heaven plays my favorite song.
They play it once again, they play it all night long.
Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.
Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.
There is a party, everyone is there.
Everyone will leave at exactly the same time.
Its hard to imagine that nothing at all
Could be so exciting, and so much fun . . .
Cheers

Re: Amy on Elvis
Meanwhile, back on topic ->
That's an interesting quote, as "She's Not You" is an atypical choice for anyone of Generation Y. It shows that Winehouse is actually paying attention to Elvis as an artist, not some kind of outsized icon.
"She's Not You" is nothing if not Elvis' take on a classic Patsy Cline up-tempo ballad -- from arrangement to subject matter it's pulling from the spirit and heartache of her great early sixties work like "She's Got You," "Why Can't He Be You" and "I Fall To Pieces."
Given sound of her superb 2006 release, Amy is a fan of rock and roll who reaches much farther back than most to bring something new and interesting to listeners in 2008.
And that is a very good thing, especially for those music lovers who have chosen to abandon any interest in 21st century popular music.

Re: Amy on Elvis
Yes, she's a role model in 2008 in much the same way Elvis was a fine, fine gentleman and role model in 1976-1977.Spellbinder wrote:And she's a fine, fine lady. A role model.
One crucial difference, however, is that Amy's contemporaneous releases are runaway critical and commercial successes.
Nighty-night.

Her naming of "She's Not You".
Is she a lesbian?
(not that there's anything wrong with that)

One does not have to identify with the narrator to appreciate the performance.KiwiAlan wrote:Her naming of "She's Not You".

Re: Amy on Elvis
But in this case she is "sobbing her heart out". That would indicate that the lyrics are causing this not the performance.Joe Car wrote:Well said Doc!drjohncarpenter wrote:One does not have to identify with the narrator to appreciate the performance.KiwiAlan wrote:Her naming of "She's Not You".

For the mere performance of She's Not You cause a flood of tears then would she slit her wrists hearing It's now or never or Suspicious Minds!

Re: Amy on Elvis
Her last album was written and recorded while she was in reasonable shape physically. The way she is now I can't see her ever making another decent recording, let alone a whole album. I don't know if it was true or just an Internet rumour, but she's said to have turned down the opportunity to record the next James Bond theme. If she can't even get it together for long enough to record one track, with all the worldwide publicity that would have earned her, then she's finished as far as I can see.pacer wrote:I know the Back To Black album was penned during her turmoil affair with her husband to be. The whole album is superb. My fav being Back To Black song itself.
If she can pen this type of material from her emotions can you image the depth and (hopefully) the quality of her next one after the last 18 months. History of music is littered with artist that have produced their best material after moments of despair.
Her only hope now is to get divorced, marry a good looking white celebrity, adopt a few brown babies and sell the pictures to Hello Magazine. At least she'll be set for life financially.
