Re: Indy '77
I have to say....that is an UNBELIEVABLE shot.
Just stunning. I've never seen such a picture that looked that fresh and contemporary. The quality does NOT look like it was taken in 1977. An incredible find, I think.
Where did you find it?
Thanks for posting!!

He looks so bloated to me. Even his hands look puffy. SO sad. Here is a pic. of him leaving the stage for the last time.

Great quality indeed.
I doubt it's from Indy though.
Looks more like Omaha or Rapid City.. looking at his tan (& eyeeyeeye make up;)
Cheers.

Re: Indy '77
Beautiful, but is it a screen shot or a photo?
I saw Elvis live in concert the year before he died. Even then, he was bigger than life, and had amazing charisma. Haven't seen anything like it since, ....until Adam.........Nocturnal 2010

Re: Indy '77
I thought it was a picture from Indianapolis from looking at the red stripes on his microphone. On that basis are we sure its Omaha? I cant check the special now but maybe somebody else could just to clinch it either way.

I dunno...I definitely do not recall EIC having any camera angles with such a dramatic effect like that. There were hardly any exciting angles as they were mostly simple shots from the front and sides...at eye level.
Re: Indy '77
It's true he was puffy and bloated, but I was there the night before, in Cincinnati, and I can tell you, it was INCREDIBLE!!! The magic that he had, the charisma the self deprecating humor, all there!! He was alert, playful and damn amazing!!! What I can see now, in photos, wasn't at all apparent onstage that night!gwsells wrote:He looks so bloated to me. Even his hands look puffy. SO sad.

I know .. I've just flicked through it now.. and can't see it. The quality of that photo is amazing .. the likes of which normally could only be found with modern day technology .. that's why I asked.IMETJB wrote:From EIC?Little Darlin wrote:Beautiful, but is it a screen shot or a photo?

Hmmm....even if that is the case...I have to say they still cleaned up the picture very well. It shows no signs of it being 30 years old. It looks like it was taken yesterday.JonRomanovich wrote:I swear some of the lights and effects in this pic look photoshopped.Mikem wrote:The Last show.

Friends, Believe it or not -it is from Indy.
The friend i got it from is an Elvis Dealer
from the old days. He said he bought it at an Elvis Convention in '82. I had the original photo in my hand and it looks this good. I may post more from Indy later -from a different photographer --If you guys want me to.

Re: Indy '77
This has to be the most beautiful photo from 1977 I've ever laid eyes on.
Thank you alot for sharing this beauty with us
Re: Indy '77
For what it's worth, I think the photo is from Rapid City.
On a trip across the States earlier this year, I stopped in at Rapid City (for Mount Rushmore), and made a point of visiting the Mount Rushmore Civic Center, which as you know Elvis opened in '77.
Anyway, the staff there were very helpful and showed me around; there were several photos of Elvis on display, along with other artists who'd performed there. (The centre celebrated its 30th anniversary this year). In one display, there was a shot taken from front row centre, of Elvis during AYLT. The pic has the same clarity, angles, lights etc as the first pic posted here.
Like I said, for what it's worth. Oh, and by way of trivia, Elvis only opened the main room of the centre; there had been a couple of smaller shows by other artists earlier. There is a huge banner in the main hall ... it goes around the whole wall for around 80 or 90 feet, and features full length shots of every major artist to have performed there. The first two shots of Elvis are six feet tall, right next to one of Gene Simmons of KISS. There are three displays devoted to Elvis, including newspaper clippings of the opening, ticket stubs, more pics etc. Pretty cool.

Okay, here are my pics from Rapid City. You'll need to look closely, but in the first photo, there is the shot of Elvis similar to the first pic in this thread. Again, for what it's worth.
And the other pics are part of that big banner I mentioned. The pics don't show it, but Elvis and Gene Simmons etc are about 6 feet high.

Re: Indy '77
To be honest, it didn't even cross my mind to go in there. There was some maintenance work going on there anyway, and the doors were locked.Rob wrote:Did you get a chance to take any pics inside the auditorium? They'd be great to see.
I did, however, get a chance to see inside the Hilton showroom in Las Vegas ... and to walk up on to the stage via the artists' entrance! Barry Manilow wasn't playing on one of the days I stayed there, and a kindly security guard escorted me through so I could take pictures. Before I could even ask, he offered me the chance to go up on the stage, then told me to go round the back and walk out through the same place where Elvis did.
My all-time coolest moment - one of so few, I'm afraid.

Re: Indy '77
He had red tape on his mic cord all through that tour. Based on his colour / hair etc, I'd definitely say it was either of the 2 CBS shows. In indy, he looked great, but wasn't wearing make up, so wasn't as dark as that. Also, his hair has the same sprayed as it did for the CBS shows. Not sure if it's Omaha or Rapid City, but would hazzard a guess at Rapid City.I thought it was a picture from Indianapolis from looking at the red stripes on his microphone. Scott - nice story re: visiting the arena. It's amazing how friendly and understanding many of these venues seem to be when Elvis fans show up!

Re: Indy '77
It's hard to tell, but Elvis did not wear rings on 6-26-77, and I cannot see any in either of these images.
