Tracklist for "American Way 5" is announced!

Friends, Southern Comfort has announced the tracklist to "The American Way 5"!

This is taken from ElvisNews:

There was a time, not too long ago, when an import cd accompanied with a nice bonus photo booklet meant value for money. "Remastered from best possible tape source", was not just a bag of hot air... Nowdays, just about every import label burries you, the potential buyer, under an endless and often meaningless list of 'PR' rap. Southern Comfort doesn't need cheap promises to sell their product. We're the best. And we have 4 volumes to prove it. Volume 5 is on its way. We hope you will enjoy the results of our labour. The expected release date is early October.

Looks mighty cool to me!

I'm especially pleased to see "True Love Travels" in there as I don't have that performance in my collection. And it appears to be taken from a new source, too, which probably means it's in better quality than before. This CD seems to end the "American Way" series with a big BANG!

Am I missing something or isn't this series focused on the 1969 Memphis sessions? I can appreciate the inclusion of rare live performances of Memphis songs but "Going Home" seems a little out of place IMO.

This is a bit of 'bits & pieces' release with some live and some mono/stereo and some going home outakes but ultimately well collectable!

Apparently, it's the last volume, so tracks 1 - 12 cover what's left, and rather than have an extremely short disc, the rest is "bonus" material.

That said, tracks 18-21 have seen very little distribution except within the über circles of Presley collectors, so a hardcore fan will be pretty thrilled. There are some interesting and revealing comments to be heard from Elvis during this January Nashville visit, to say the least. And I'm not talking about "The Prisoner's Song" jam.

Yes...tracks 18 - 21 are completely new..they have been floating around on a CDR called Escondido for a few years now..but this is the first silver disc they are on...a very nice addition...Elvis is totally off the role..

... It was only recently the Escondito cdr was brought to my attention...
But strangely enough, never have seen it discussed here since I joined
this site, about 2 and a half years ago... The "Ubergroup" of collectors,
who have had access to this cdr must be extremely small...?
... What does the title stand for, anyway? "High as a Sombrero" is a
more fitting title imo. Party! Party!... The guys, sure had a good time
during this session...!

Why on earth have tracks 18-21 been on an acetate source? I thought that usually the (still undubbed) masters have been pressed on an acetate in order for Elvis or the Colonel to be able to listen to it in advance. But why did they do that with takes 3-14?

RCA, due to the possible inclusion of several "risque" ( read: dirty)
songs. Going by the sound of the acetate recording, the source might
well have been a private cassette deck, from one of the guys at hand
in the studio...? Whatever has happened to the original session tape
is unknown...? And what ever happened to the missing songs, cut before
tranfered to acetate, isnt known either...

I picked up Escondido on ebay about 3 years ago. Verrrry interesting, but the sound quality was indeed pretty poor. A friend of mine cleaned it up for me a bit, but I hope AW5 has it from an earlier generation source.

I put a thread up here at the time and a few guys PM'd me and I did them copies, but surprisingly, it was not widely discussed.
