Hey people! Don't get too carried away because none of this stuff is ever as great as it's hyped up to be. Look how much Perzado bigged up the footage on his second Sun package. It turned out to be a 5 second clip!
Sure, I want to see any new Elvis footage from the '50s. It's far more important than a re-edited On Tour or EIC. But at the same time I'm not building my hopes up too much.

yeah that is true. 5 Seconds in slow motion correct? Man I hate it when they show the footage in slow motion just to make it seems longer.
The 62 World fair footage video is all in slow motion. Rip off.
But there is footage from many different cities, so perhaps the guy taking the footage used up several of those tiny reels which would net about 5 mintues per show. that would still be amazing.

Nothing has actually been said in the press release that this is just "Tupelo" - perhaps it's a box set of ALL known 50's 'Live' performances! Joseph Pirzada has been known to pull rabbits from hats! (so to speak!).Stan from Tintane wrote:and don't forget the amateur tupelo evening footage in color with elvis wearing his red shirt
But you're right, Stan, this set should include the evening show footage from Tupelo - as it will be great for the fans to finally see!
I wonder (Now that he is back) what DJC has to say about this release?

the way that the show was recorded was that the guy who recorded put his reel to reel tape recorder under the stage near the speaker and thats how the audio was done.
the tape was sent to elvis cause of the interview with his mother was on it.
rca found the tape at graceland in the 80s in elvis's archives.

Looks like the tracklist for this project was finally released today
it looks like he has complete video of Heartbreak Hotel/Long Tall Sally/I Was The One/ Don't Be Cruel (and bits of I Want You, I Need You, I Love You, I Got A Woman, and Hound Dog). If there are really four complete performances with sound on here this is huge!
Our first real glimpse of Elvis on stage in the 50's!!!
The only thing that will beat this is the discovery of that elusive Pied Piper film.

Still wouldn't be interested in this, Sorry to say.
What with Elvis Thats The Way It Is, i'll be saving my bread for that
and any possible 70's upgrades (i.e Elvis on tour) that maybe coming out by next year.
At any rate one would've thought that the present demand for 1950's Elvis is not as
strong as the 1970's Elvis.

Are you serious????
Ok, I LOVE TTWII, BUT as far as live stage performances are, so far we have seen:
70's: TTWII,Lost Performances, Aloha, Elvis On Tour, and Elvis In Concert
60's: 2 sitdown shows, 2 standup shows 68 Special
50's: --
We have the bits from the TV shows but that's nothing like raw energy of a concert from the 1950's when he made his reputation as the king of Rock N' Roll. I don't see how it's possible to value 43 minutes of TTWII outtakes over this UNRELEASED footage of such historic magnitude. I mean Elvis live in the 50's is what made the live Rock show such a big deal in the first place!

Certainly, any Presley collector of serious intent will have to buy a copy of this DVD.KingOfTheJungle wrote:... it looks like he has complete video of Heartbreak Hotel/Long Tall Sally/I Was The One/ Don't Be Cruel (and bits of I Want You, I Need You, I Love You, I Got A Woman, and Hound Dog). In a previous topic -- now gone -- I was somewhat misconstrued while in the midst of a discussion of current and previous MRS audio issues, among other things.
All that aside, the discovery and imminent release of Tupelo footage by MRS is going to be one of the highlights of 2007 for those who love Elvis. Lives were changed by Presley performances like those in Tupelo on September 26, 1956.

hey DOC,
OK you made your point. After reading your post it made me feel like kicking myself up the you- know- what.... real hard!!! As you so eloquently put it "any Presley
fan of serious intent" most definitely should have this piece of raw PRESLEY
history. I couldn't agree with you more!
But Doc it's also about economics and so will be prioritise my
bread and get THATS THE WAY IT IS dvd as well as some of the other materials and acquire later the Tupelo '56
show. I just worship the latter E.P more so than the early raw "sets the world on fire" one.
Doc: one more thing: no good for either of the two "making of" Sgt Peppers TV specials re. broadcast
rights in this country. Seven network screened one in 1987 and another
in 1992 (the latter was exceptional and if memory serves was
produced by sofa entertainment). Both those were screened only once
but their rights expired imediately after the event I was told. Will they be showing
these on June 1 in the U.S. on the equivelant of our FOXTELL Pay Television service?
Jeez DOC, if i had only remembered much earlier i would've tried knocking on the
door of the networks much earlier about this most important milestone
of Rock history.
All Power to DJC !!!

Well, a lot of the details about the Tupelo concerts DVD was on the other two [deleted] threads.
As I recall, were getting four complete songs & parts of a few others.
How many times have I posted something like:
"Well, it's been 30 years & nothing has surfaced, so it's not likely to now !"
And then this comes along !
Where have they been hiding it ?
I thought the newsreels of the day just filmed a few seconds of Elvis moves for inclusion in their reports !
And now this !!
I had no idea any complete songs were shot.
The snippets we've had were of a decent commercial quality, so I'm quite optimistic that this will be a real treat for the eyes !
OK, we know the audio is a bit basic, but oh, those visuals !
Something to look forward to !

The new footage is thanks to the dedicated footwork of Joseph Pirzada. He went to the source that filmed the newsreel (Fox, I believe) and helped track down the RAW footage that was shot to make the trailer, which wound up to include four full songs! We should be thankful for the dedication of people like this (leasing this footage from Fox was NOT CHEAP), because EPE has had no interest in preserving historcal footages in this way, or making them available to the public.ColinB wrote: I thought the newsreels of the day just filmed a few seconds of Elvis moves for inclusion in their reports !
One interesting point is that the raw footage also had sound-which makes me wonder if other News footages from the era might have sound as well (w/ Liberace in Vegas, San Diego 56, and LA airport footage).

It is of course fantastic to have live footage of complete songs from 1956, I can't wait to see it - seconds that changed the entertainment world and the lives for many of those who attended.
The fact that newsreel footage could be tracked down after more than 50 years is also very interesting. This COULD mean that some of the speculations regarding live footage during the 1970's are correct. Hopefully someone will have the time and power to do the Elvis world the fantastic favour to try to track this down.

Hello,
I recently received via e-mail a Windows Media Player file performance clip of "Don't Be Cruel" from this MRS DVD. I've never seen anything like it. It's truly phenomenal. At one point a female fan has to be kindly escorted back to her seat by gathering of police officers.

When is the last time EPE has sought out rare Elvis materials for release or simply preservation?drjohncarpenter wrote:They don't?KingOfTheJungle wrote:... EPE has had no interest in preserving historcal footages in this way, or making them available to the public.
They didn't even bother to seek out the master-tapes of the 68 Special (which are in the hands of a private collector that offered to work with them) for the 68 Special box. I would welcome a change of heart from the offices of EPE.
