OUCH! Worst Elvis CD/ LP Cover "ART"...

Sun Oct 29, 2006 8:30 am

... One thing Ive learned... [ huh?] Never try anything different

in presentation for a Elvis audio release! On the Topic "wanted

Originals - Chicago Beat... etc " by OnTourCam, Chicago Beat's

coverdesign is described as one of the worst ever... Maybe the

designer's mind was toxicated with Elvis candy at the time...?

It would have fitted a 70s psychedellic release... But for a 76 Elvis

concert release, it was a bad choice. Agreed!

But what about "Forever Young and Beautiful" , an 80s vinyl boot?!

... They dont come any uglier than that in my book...

Howzebout a vote for the ugliest covers ever presented on a

Elvis cd/ lp...? Dick? Funky? Pep, Doc?... and everybody else!

Post them mothers here, and make us cringe with disbelieve!

I would agree with you Ger....

Chicago Beat wins hands down as
the ugliest cover I have seen too...

The others I have pictured below
aren't any of my favorites either...

Who ever put "Welcome In San Antone"
together must have been brain dead.... :smt021

Not the best picture to use...This cover is so dull !!

Who ever made this one sure likes Crowns

The Beatles should NEVER be on the cover of ANY Elvis album !!

I'm sorry, but no cover is worse than this one...first the picture, how disrespectful could someone be, and the title is just as bad...the people who made this should be ashamed of themselves !!!

ouch!

... Burning in Birmingham, Pepman??!! Thats a pretty decent one...

Looks like the Chicago Beat is a frikkin boot of a boot of a boot!

imo this is not the first generation copy... Eternal Flame photo of

his back fits nicely with the title... I mean, we know what he looks like,

up front, a little designers freedom doesnt hurt? Guess it does :D

Ah, Forever Young, Forever Beautiful (Memphis Flash Records - JL 92447).

That sucker came out in 1978, and I bought it! It was the first issue of the bizarrely entertaining Eddie Fadal home jam session, with Elvis, girlfriend Anita Wood, Eddie and his little daughter all chiming in at various times on songs like "Happy, Happy Birthday Baby." It was taped in May 1958. The infamous Paul Lichter was behind this beauty -- despite plenty of photos from the period, he put that inappropriate piece of original "art" on the cover.

Those were the days!

Agreed Ger !! Certainly one of the worst covers we've gotten
from the FTD label...

ouch!

Sun Oct 29, 2006 9:38 am

... The monkey photo is from Dutch photographer Laurens van

Houten. The one used on FTD is like x generations removed from

its original color quality... check the original used on one of the

cds from the Profile boxes...

Wasn't this topic just covered? Oh, I remenber!! It was on another message board where Jaykeisha hangs out.

My vote for worst cover goes to FTD's Studio B? The ugly lime- green one.

You know as soon as I started reading this thread I started scrolling down looking for Burning in B'ham. I have a special relation to that cd as it is the only concert I ever attended. As good as the concert was and as much as I enjoyed the cd I always thought the cover was ugly. I think the concept was ok just not the way our guy looks in the pictures.

The sad thing for me, as hard as I try, I can't find any pictures from that concert that are attractive. Something is just not right with his appearance that night. He had slimmed down quite a bit but he still looks so unhealthy, which was the case I suppose. Although you can find plenty of pictures from Pittsburg that looks pretty good.

   3577 - who was it who sketched the pic of Elvis on that cover ?

For me I love it, I think it's great as it in no way caricatures a bad point about Elvis. I'm sure Elvis would have liked that as well.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 12:41 pm

I think the original cover for the Moody Blue LP is astonishingly bad.

Was that the smallest picture of Elvis they could find? Surely even a failed art student from the worst school in the world could have come up with something better. Just making the picture of Elvis full size would have been a start?

... Claudia Records???... I never knew a Claudia. But that aside... YES!

Its an original reefer tallhair, drawn circa 75/76, and used on this lp

cover without my knowledge. I mean... the surounding design is too

sad for words. My ex had a dog named Claudia. But that was long

before she met me...

Agree with ya on this one Doc..
I to am guilty of buying the 1978 version of "Forever Young"
from Mr. Lichter, and ALWAYS hated the cover..

but at the time I enjoyed hearing it for the simple fact ,
that it was different and unsual to get to hear Elvis preforming at a home gig!!

Was'nt such thing in '78 as the home recording ect. where you get to listen to The man's informal jams..

My second vote goes to the "Separate Ways" cover!!!!!!!!

Sun Oct 29, 2006 2:21 pm

LesterB

well I think that original MOODY BLUE cover is classic... do you remember CD re-releasefrom 2000? THIS IS WHAT I CALL UGLY COVER (Elvis in 1975 without legs) http://home.online.no/~ov-egela/bmg00.html

Sun Oct 29, 2006 2:42 pm

It's funny, I think the original Moody Blue design is one the best from the 70's... LesterB - don't you think we have enough of those full-size / black background / live photos? At least someone tried to do something more creative with the Moody Blue cover; and I think both the front and back photos are great (we probably should be thankful they didn't use more recent images!). And I love that ELVIS logo they used 74-77, like a comic book superhero logo or something. But this is a thread about the worst covers, I know... These ones are pretty bad:

(great record, lousy cover)

And as for old vinyl bootlegs, I like many of them, even if they're pretty basic in the design... nothing is worse than someone working with an image in Photoshop, not having a clue what the **** they're doing!

Here is an old one I have in my collection, nice song selection but lousy sound and not a very attractive cover (well ok, its got that classic bootleg look alright, but they could have used a better photo!):

My least favourite covers are the FTD release "Made in Memphis" (terrible picture and colurs make it so unappealing) and the "strained" photo on "Raised on rock".
