Something to think about.
You may be on the right lines. I don't pretend to believe in "the splendor of heaven", but perversely, I do believe it was the moment that sealed Elvis' immortality.

what utter toss.
An interesting comment from someone whose avatar pictures him slipping the tongue to a stone lion just because it happens to be at the head of Elvis' driveway.
You seem like a right fervent worshipper. And I thought you weren't the religious type
Another defining moment was the success of "It's Now or Never" a song which took the "King of Rock 'n' Roll" right into the mainstream of popular music ensuring his place as the greatest popular singer of them all.
The shock to my system having to line up behind "old geezers" in 1960 to buy the record!
Maurice, you do alot of good but do you have to have it advertised in every single post you put up.
It seems thats the main reason you post, to make yourself popular.
Whats with the Tupelo link? You have already put a thread up so members know about it.
When you go to Elvis events, do you have a shirt on saying who you are and all the good causes you do in the name of Elvis?
Have a day off will you?
If your looking for trouble, you will end up hurt.
I don't think anyone has mentioned this one: the day he first appeared in a jump suit on stage! I would think for many- when they think of Elvis- they picture him in a jumpsuit.

I think the pinnacle of his life would of have to of been when Presley 'punched' the air (in recognition of the Orchestra) towards the end of Aloha' Trilogy Unfortunately, it was down hill after that . . . .

Elvis had many defining moments, and if he was still around, he'd probably be the first to say so, but for me, it's the Comeback Special. It was sink or swim. And Elvis swam -- more than swam, in fact, he rocketed out of the water and evaporated it clean away with his hot trail. That was some of the finest music of his -- or anyone's -- life. If I had to go for a second moment, then it would be Elvis singing "An American Trilogy" during the Aloha concert. Talk about epic! Elvis' Babe is also correct citing "Unchained Melody" from Rapid City. Now, despite the tragic decline of a cultural icon, here was a magnificent performance delivered against all odds, right from the heart. If that doesn't sum up what Elvis was and is all about, then nothing can.
I saw something on TV showing a dog in a jumpsuit. A voice dubbed in said "Thank you, thank you very much" in mock Elvis style. That's a new low, I think. Sadly my guess would be that when many people think of Elvis in a jump suit it's not a pretty picture.
Another defining moment for Elvis had to be when he grew his long sideburns in 1950's. They became one of his "trademarks." After that, any mention in the popular media to sideburns linked it with Elvis and his sideburns. That cetainly was one of the reasons Elvis got such media attention when he was getting his haircut for the Army- he was losing his "trademark."

Another defining moment: When Steve Binder and Elvis were discussing the material for what would become the 68 Special. Steve asked Elvis if he was willing to take risks. He asked him if he was willing to sing "Macarthur Park," for instance. Elvis's affirmative answer charted a musical journey that would result with some of his best stuff.
