looks, at least get the movie right.

The word harum shouldn't be confused with harem [as in Harem Holiday]

Harem is an eastern ruler's collection of women [or the place where they live].

The word harum only seems to exist when used in conjuction with its partner scarum.

Harum scarum means a hodge-podge, a mess, all-over-the-place.

Actually, it's quite an apt title for the film !

Just watched 'Harum Scarum' again and, believe me I've tried, but ColinB's assessment is spot on. It sucks!!

I watched it on DVD recently (probably saw it over 25 years ago originally as kid) and thought it was pretty shabby. Still, go in with low expectations and be rewarded with at least a few decent Elvis songs and
some nice leading ladies. But what a script...!

It's also the only Elvis movie set in the Middle East. That's something
different, right folks?

I still say it has some kind of "reverse charm."

admittedly...the hilight was elvis in the middle of a bunch of harem girls.

the songs, really, aren't half bad. not elvis spectacular, but not bad for his mid-60s lite soundtrack fare.

shoot me. i kinda enjoyed it. it could be worse--it could have shelley fabares.

and i dig the middle-eastern garb. it's not half as rediculous as a few mid-60s things they put on him...at least it all seemed to fit, whereas a few movies looked like they made his clothes a few sizes too small. ::cough:: vlv's jackets ::cough::

and if we're going to talk movies where he looks like a sausage--kid galahad and follow that dream were in need of weight loss suplements. paradise, hawaiian style wasn't nearly that bad as far as elvis' appearance.

and at least he had sideburns in this movie--even though they were horribly pointy...but that's better than none at all. it's about the time we started seeing them reemerge.

also goodbye to the stupid hair lock that bounced around the front of his face in front of the blueish helmet hair, that he had in frankie & johnny (and btw, that's one of my favorite elvis movies, but not a good hair year).

so yeah...harum scarum has the reemergence of sideburns.

albeit, it wasn't until live a little, love a little or so that he emerged as the more mature-looking elvis.

i tend to view the 60s as the big awkward-looking stage. he was neither young/cute or mature/hot. personally i find him more attractive in the late-70s than i do in the early-mid-60s...just not a flattering period.

You'll all remember Billy Barty, the little mute guy from Harum Scarum.

Had he not died in 2000, he would have been 81 today.

Just not true. He's far bulkier in PHS. There's a good reason that, although it's set in Hawaii, we never see Elvis with his shirt off.
