I like either version of the song. But, i also wish that Elvis had recorded more uptempo songs around that time. I always wanted to hear an entire album of Rock songs and an entire album of Blues songs.

In "A World With Our Own", it's not a problem to include "Never Again". The diversety of our man is what made him so great, imo! So, Yes!

Never Again was written by Billy Edd Wheeler and Jerry Chestnut. It wasn't recorded by anyone else before. It's an original Elvis Presley song. And those were scarce at that time. That makes this song interesting and stand out from many of the others recorded at the Jungle Room. And the lyrics fit him like a glove:

No for me. It’s a leftover cut if I was producing an album in 77. However, with Presley being so unwell, they were desperate for material and I don’t blame them for trying.

You are probably correct about that. I imagine it was the mood he was in at the time. I honestly never thought much about (or listened to the blues) until i heard Elvis record some of those type songs. It really gave me a new respect for that kind of music.

For me - Yes!

I remember buying the Moody Blue expanded CD in 2000 and being disapointed with most of the songs (which were unheard by me then) - the overall depressing mood was nothing I was counting for. But as the years went by, the songs grew on me and now, while I preceive the mood of both LPs, FEPBMT & MB, as still on the "dwonbeat" side, I appreciate the songs very much. Guess I needed some time to stomach them (to grow up to better understand them).

Having said that, Never Again, Love Coming Down, I'll Never Fall In Love Again, The Last Farewell, Solitaire are songs I value for their "haunting desolate" feel they have. They are perfect match with what was going on with Elvis' (mental) life at that time.

It is almost a theme album for me with Elvis singing full with emotions. It is an album to close Your eyes and You can feel it all.
It is like an an Hank Williams album in barriton.

Mate, i must admit i never considered it.

Elvis should've cut a full on renditions on Williams "I'm so Lonesome I could Cry" and "Cold, Cold Heart" in his 1976 voice, would've been rather nice.

This was the beginning of 1976. He sounded fine in December 1975, and yet he sounds thirty years older just two months later. And then sounded ok again in March 1976. He wasn't seriously ill. He wasn't even overworked - he hadn't worked in six weeks.

It's just like every other aspect of the human body, once you are no longer a kid, it takes some work to keep things at their peak level.

My Pop is 75 and when he sings, it's like an angel just walked into the room.

And last I heard, Springsteen in his 70's hasn't sung this good in his whole career.

Imho, by this time, you can definitely hear a change from the "Today" sessions to the Graceland recordings. I'm not debating that.

Elvis was falling deeper and deeper and nothing from family to management was doing anything about it. What a waste.
