Looking at the photo, we can see cousin Gene Smith to Elvis' right.
They're taking the train back home to Memphis on Monday, January 7, 1957, we see them at a stop over in Greeneville, TN at 7:05pm.
Thanks, bripet56.

John is right about Elvis being on a train. I think he is on his way to New York for the 3rd Ed Sullivan show. The attached picture shows him at the train door signing autographs, same hair, same clothes. The train door frame is the identical and Gene appears too.

Your suggestion is incorrect.
When Elvis arrived at arrived Penn Station in New York at 6:20am on Sunday, January 6th, he was wearing different clothes:
All of these are from the stop over in Greeneville, TN on January 7th.

The intent of this post was to congratulate you for your deduction. To discover that the photo was taken on a train was smart when so little was shown. You could just have said thank you. Regarding his clothing, on such a long trip, Elvis would have changed, his shirt as a minimum. At least, let's agree that the picture was taken either on the way to NY, or back to Memphis between January 4th and January 7th, 1957.

Not sure what you're on about, but I'm very confident that my statements are correct. Feel free to think otherwise.
Incidentally, Elvis' journey home found him at 1034 Audubon very early in the morning of his 22nd birthday. A fan snapped these photos of him hopping his fence so as to not wake up his folks. Notice the clothing.

With what looks like this sweater from Loving You, I thought the Audubon photos were from March.
