Temporary Update for you folks.
We have managed to get nearly all the posts across from the old database. this was done with the same amount of slow server speed you were experiencing before.
It was like emptying a swimming pool with a thimble, i ain't kidding.
Out of the 163147 posts we got 162531 which means 616 have been lost.
I still believe that although the server will load the pages ultra fast for you now that we do have a situation where because it is fast it doesn't finish a full routine of searching all 162000 plus posts to ensure it displays all the info, consequently you'll see that mid april 2005 is as far as it seems to want to go.
Having said that it can see this latest one you're reading now, so maybe there's some little quirk we've missed so far.
But because we have the posts in data format I think i'm going to open the site up again very soon to posting so you all don't get too frustrated.
I might have to create something else to show the last two months posts in or maybe we can fix the bug, we'll have to see.
Hang on in there for a few more minutes. sorry for all the inconvenience but we hope you'll appreciate the extra speed in the long run.

It is a fantastic update. Although I am curious as to what happened to all the posts from 2004? It seems there are more pages in the forum than there are posts. Anyway, still a job well done.
Steve:
Just curious, on a technical level, as to how you managed to copy so many posts from one server to another. I tried to do this with a phpbb forum about a year ago simply by copying the whole folder from the old server to the new. I thought it would be easy but I did lose posts in the process. Could you email me or PM me to let me know the technical ins and outs of it in case I need to do it again?
