Room with a music system

#1709377

Post by Scoobie »

Inspired by the “Room With A View” thread, I would be interested to know what equipment folks use to listen to Elvis, perhaps in their Elvis room.

I would be interested to know what audio equipment is used for playback.

In the interest of getting things started, here is mine;

NAS server : Synology DS216 play.
Rega RP1 Record Player
Cambridge Audio 540p Phono Stage
Cambridge Audio 540a Amplifier
NAP (network audio player): Marantz NA6005
DAC : Cambridge Audio DAC Magic
Headphone Amp : Graham Slee Novo
Headphones : Grado SR60i
Speakers : Monitor Bronze B2
Sub Woofers : Rel Quake 150 watt.

The sub woofers handle the bass by taking an identical feed from the amp as the main speakers and using a variable filter to filter out frequencies other than bass.
This is variable and has to be set quite carefully.
It really sounds sweet with the extra depth, especially “Elvis Is Back” and anything those sessions.
Concerts sound amazing with the extra depth as well, but one has to be carefully not to overload the bass which is easily done with the PFAP mix of the MSG concerts, not so critical with the legacy mix though.

Shouldn't this be somewhere else instead of All Elvis.

No need for the sarcasm, so grow up. This thread had nothing to do with Elvis as such and you know it.

A great topic in my humble opinion.
Is there anything more important to music, including Elvis, than the sound equipment in which it is played? I believe that few things or none.
But it is only my vision. And therefore we must enhance its importance in this forum.

There is a difference. If someone has a room purely devoted to their Elvis collection then surely it can fall into All Elvis. But I would not post photo of my garden and discuss its landscaping just because I sit in the garden listening to Elvis music and then post it in the All Elvis forum.

Great topic, Scoobie!

Here's my stereo / movie equipment:

Turntable: Luxman PD282
Blu-ray/CD player: Oppo BDP-95EU
Amplifier: Luxman L-590AX
Speakers: Tannoy Precision 6.2 Limited Edition
Tape Deck: Grundig Twin Cassette Deck CCF 301
Turntable for playing 78 r.p.m. records: Philips 202 Electronic
TV: Sony KDL-40W4500

Unfortunately, I'm not able to upload a picture.

Tapes and 78’s that is unusual combo. I would try tapes, but to get a good unit is quite expensive these days. I would go for a Nakamichi Dragon if I were to do it. I still have my Elvis tapes from the 1980’s, it would be interesting to hear them again.
How is the Grundig?

The Grundig doesn't work, unfortunately.
Suddenly the "wheels" got stuck. I haven't tried to repair it.
It sounded fine to me as long as it worked.

I'm in need of a cartridge to be able to use the Philips 78 turntable.

There is nothing wrong with the topic....its just where it is. People can still have fun, if that's the right word for a topic such as this and there is a dedicated forum for AV Equipment and discussions - maybe you missed it..

In my case I have the following current system:
Amplifier: Audio Analogue Maestro. It is one of the few integrated in the world that is equivalent to a pre amp and power amp of top level but in a single volume.
Cd is the Dcs P8i mk2. a marvel. and especially accompanied by the Dcs Paganini external master clock.
Speakers. Graham LS 5/8 (BBC style)
Current Power Station: isol8 Substation LC and Isol8 Powerline
Cables JPS, Furutech, Transparent
Finite Pagode Rack
Omicron vibration regulators
Tonal balance and timbrers Aktyna.
Simply outstanding sound.
Room is 35m2 wooden floor with all types of conditionig elements.

I reckon the most important thing is surely how the music is mastered in the first place, otherwise everything else is a moot point... For example, how do the 'Electronically Reprocessed Stereo' albums sound on the greatest equipment available? Equally I wonder how the 'Double Trouble' or 'Frankie And Johnny' soundtrack bear up?

Indeed. Of course the other big consideration is....budget. It’s all very well coming on here listing super high end equipment that the majority of people simply cannot afford, or would not even consider spending on in the first place....they have other priorities in life.

I’ve got a Yamaha aventage 3070 receiver
Oppo 205 blu ray player with balanced XLR outs.
Definitive Technology pro monitor 1000 sattelites

Love my setup but do find it’s a bit harsh/bright. Itching to get the klipsch RFIII towers. Anyone have those??

The Hi-End systems can't polish a turd.
If the sound of the master on the CD sounds crappy or the record is a bad press it'll sound bad.

Crap in ---> crap out.

But if the source sounds great, then it will sound marvelous on a hi-end hi-fi.

Absolutely. As an audiophile for many years I can confirm that this is the case. Fortunately, with Elvis' recordings there is a lot of material that in an audiophile equipment can lead to Audio Nirvana.
There are also other key factors. The music room. If it is generous in size and is well conditioned it is 50% of the result, after the recording.
And of course the high end sound system , specially out of parameter or reference stereo systems.

Of course the easiest and cheaper route to high end sound is a decent headphone amp and a good or high end pair of headphones. At least that way one is not dealing with room acoustics, dampening panels, and so on.

Audio is something one can spend anything from a few hundred to to a few hundred thousand. I find it interesting to see what other Elvis fans are using. I like my set up but am keenly aware that it is firmly at the mid range end of the scale, in terms of high end equipment.
“Fun In Acapulco” sounds amazing to me, I can only imagine how good it must sound on a high end system.

Many thanks for your kind words.
Yes. It is really fantastic as many FTD titles , specially on the last 10/11 years of releases.
Also are great the Elvis Analogue Prs sacd releases , Ttwii Mfsl ,and more.
It is so much the quality that gives me now the cd format upsampled to dsd with DCS and the native sacd that I have dispensed formats vinyl and reel to reel because I get the same but with much greater cleanliness and perfection without losing any musicality.

Do you play high resolution media files? When I compared the SACD of “Elvis Is Back” (on a player no longer have) I found the high res files to be identical. So I invested in HD files rather than SACD.

I did not see any media server in your set up, hence the question....
