It was already mentioned . . . I too wish that "All I Needed Was The Rain" was longer.

Re: 5 decent songs that should have been longer
I have one that most of you probably haven't though about; 'Nothingville' (from the 68 special). Imagine a full length version of that song. I also like 'All I needed was the rain' which is way too short. 'Night life' is another one that is short (even with that guitar solo).

Excellent choice! I like 'Rain' also. Cool little song which could have benefited from a bluesy harmonica solo to bridge it.Troubleman wrote:I have one that most of you probably haven't though about; 'Nothingville' (from the 68 special). Double trouble is also a nice song that is way too short (1:37 I believe).

That's a good idea.Fish wrote:Oh, and Patch it up needs a solo, either in between or as an outro. It would break the monotony of the song and give it that bit more edge.

It should be said many believe that longer is not always better.

Not Elvis' version, but this guy is a real talent and delivers a first class rendition of that track. He does lots of Elvis covers minus the uh-huh-huhs, sunglasses, lamb-chops, etc. A pretty tasty guitar player too. Check it out...Rich_TCB wrote:It was already mentioned . . . "Steadfast Loyal And True" should have had a guitar solo right after the first verse to make it a bit more entertaining and joyous.

Santa Lucia .
Wasn't there a rumour saying that there was a longer version in the archives of RCA containing additional accordion ?

It does sound good. Maybe a new extended version, with a good guitar break 'a la Jerry Reed', could be done also on a future Remix album? Not Elvis' version, but this guy is a real talent and delivers a first class rendition of that track. Re: 5 decent songs that should have been longer
Always liked Party more than Hot Dog, but Hot Dog is indeed a song that would have benefited greatly from a Scotty Moore solo. Interesting how 2 very short rockers were featured on the same album back to back.Hard Rocker on Fri Jul 13, 2018 10:14 pm wrote:Good call, Jimmy.JimmyCool on Sat Jul 14, 2018 2:47 am wrote:I like "Hot Dog" (the song).

Re: 5 decent songs that should have been longer
I'm sure you know there is a longer version. The unedited master is longer than the release version (almost 30 seconds) and includes an additional verse, though it's unreleased so far: https://www.keithflynn.com/recording-sessions/660628.htmlsitdown revamped on Thu Jul 19, 2018 6:07 pm wrote:Like that one.Roddy on Wed Oct 07, 2015 10:46 pm wrote:"There's so much world to see" should be longer.
At least we have the alternate master on "Silver Screen Stereo" which is unedited.

Re: 5 decent songs that should have been longer
According to that page, the only difference between the "record version" on the FTD the "record version - transfer" is that the count-in is longer on the transfer, and the source is MONO. Otherwise, they are apparently the same. Not a very good song in any case.henryneill on Thu Jul 19, 2018 2:43 pm wrote:I'm sure you know there is a longer version. Re: 5 decent songs that should have been longer
That's true, however the version released in 1967 on the album is not the "record version" (that was unreleased until we got it from FTD about 30 years later). The album version was in fact the edited "movie version" (#2004 - omitting the 'trains' verse) which runs 1:57. The alternate master "record version" (#2003) has the 'trains' verse in and runs 2:21 (the count-in was not included on "Silver Screen Stereo").drjohncarpenter on Fri Jul 20, 2018 12:37 am wrote: According to that page, the only difference between the "record version" on the FTD the "record version - transfer" is that the count-in is longer on the transfer, and the source is MONO. I think it's one of the better songs from the film. BTW, I think the melody is a bit reminiscent of this song:

Re: 5 decent songs that should have been longer
That was nice. Decent singer, and very good guitar player. How I wish Elvis would have done stuff like this in concert , a sort of acoustic segment, but he obviously didnt play as well as this guy. Still, like Jim Croce who had a very good player with him, he could have sat with a very good player, and the both of them could have run thru some songs like this from his career. Not glam enough for some folks that like all the glitter, goldbelts and stuff, but musically much more pleasant.Hard Rocker on Wed Oct 07, 2015 5:35 pm wrote:Not Elvis' version, but this guy is a real talent and delivers a first class rendition of that track. It reminds me a little of New Orleans from KIng Creole.Steve Morse on Fri Jul 20, 2018 2:55 pm wrote:Yes, an excellent song, especially in its longer form.sitdown revamped on Thu Jul 19, 2018 5:07 pm wrote:Like that one.Roddy on Wed Oct 07, 2015 10:46 pm wrote:"There's so much world to see" should be longer.
