Non lifetime FTDs
We've had a number of non lifetime FTDs over the years, 'Guitar man', 'Our memories' and 'This is Elvis' we've also hand the non cannon 'Hits of the 70s'
What would you like to see in the future, GR5, The Memphis record? Share you thoughts please.

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
Both would be welcome, specially if more material was remixed in 84 and 87 for both releases

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
Just my opinion, but I think FTD should do a "Classic Album" release of the "Guitar Man" album, with the original album art.
They could fix the previous sound error with "Loving Arms", and issue possible alternate takes & the other tunes that weren't included previously (ex: "For Ol' Times Sake").

If Sony will not put out a Legacy Edition of WWGAH volume 1 and 2, then FTD should do it.

With original mono mixes and not contemporary re-mixes like the original CD issues of those albums and FTD's version of 'Hits of the '70's, please...skatterbrane wrote:If Sony will not put out a Legacy Edition of WWGAH volume 1 and 2, then FTD should do it.

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
I would like a "King Creole" FTD 7 inch set, the missing soundtracks, some live concerts NOT from 1976. The "I Was the One" album is certainly an intriguing choice.

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
I'm not that into buying stuff I already have anymore, but I gladly make a exception for a remastered The Memphis Record. Maybe with the 9 remaining tracks included. I was never a big fan of the original mixes.
You know, that version of "Dixie" and uh, the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," it's so beautiful!
The band he's put together is so over-the-top, and only Elvis would have that kinda spending power, and just audacious craziness. Choirs, and orchestras, and a great rhythm section, maybe another gospel group on the side. None of it makes sense until you suddenly hear something like that, and they're all playing a role in that, and it's very moving music. That's the pure joy of music in the man. You know, that's when I see everything stop.

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
I see some nice ideas...
I'd like to see the rest of the soundtracks first, and only then I'd consider "other" albums. No "Hits of the 70's"-like albums though...
I wonder if "Roustabout" as a single disc (since there is apparently little material available) and with the addition of radio spots would be a possibility. Of course it would be better if Ernst and Roger would "find"/"mysteriously acquire" some more material...

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
I'd be happy with a box set of the remixed 80s tracks: stuff on Return Of The Rocker, The Top Ten Hits, The Memphis Record, Always On My Mind, etc., along with any unissued mixes. Ditto for any mixes that might have been done for the 70s box that ultimately didn't make the cut.

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
I would say FTD could release the German compilations Rare Elvis vol. 1,2,3. They contain some rare single versions and rare versions. Most of it is already out on the main label but i liked those albums. I would not go for the I Was The One project. Elvis in Concert was released after his dead so we need that one. But most of all i would like to see everything recorded from E-TTWII and On Tour along with every recorded track from feb '72 Las Vegas. Still some '69 concerts and late 60ś movie soundtracks. Classic album's like A Date With Elvis, For LP Fans Only, Kissin' Cousins, Speedway, Roustabout, TV Special, Aloha From Hawaii, Madison Square Garden, Legendary 1/4.

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
My favorite 80's-early 90's Elvis titles are the three "Essential Elvis" collections of 50's material and the three-disc "Collector's Gold".

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
A whole lot of bottom of the barrel suggestions here. Of the ~150 FTD releases since 1999, very few have actually been of posthumous albums. But since that's the idea, why not begin with the first Joan Deary masterpieces in 1978?
He Walks Beside Me (RCA AFL1 2772, February 1978)
Mahalo From Elvis (RCA Pickwick ACL1 7064, May 1978)
Elvis Sings For Children ... and Grownups too! (RCA CPL1 2901, July 1978)
Elvis: A Canadian Tribute (RCA KKL 1 7065, September 1978)
Elvis: A Legendary Performer, Volume 3 (RCA CPL 1 3082, November 1978)

John, you seem to have mixed this thread with the '76 soundboard Joan Deary fan baitiing' thread.drjohncarpenter wrote:A whole lot of bottom of the barrel suggestions here. Are there any posthumous releases, Albums or track collections, that you feel merit the FTD treatment.

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
In my book 'A Legendary Performer - Volume 3' was a fine release.
A great cover, tracks like 'Danny', 'Fame & Fortune' (alt), the two '68 Special numbers, a beautiful version of 'Let It Be Me' the unreleased 'Britches' and a frantic version of 'Frankfort' Special'. All in perfect sound quality.
That picture disc sure looks good on the turntable too.

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
Forgive me, I'm not familiar with the track listings of the Legendary series, but I would assume large swathes of the tracks have already made their way onto FTD, on the other hand they would be the ideal place to mop up loose tracks as was done with Elvis for Everyone.jetblack wrote:In my book 'A Legendary Performer - Volume 3' was a fine release.

Re: Non lifetime FTDs
John hit the nail squarely on the head with his post. That third option, or turd option, if you prefer, is just as relevant as Hits of the '70s. I'm sure there are hundreds of Camden albums that could be released with absolutely nothing new on them, and at a premium price. What's the point?chop983 wrote:John, you seem to have mixed this thread with the '76 soundboard Joan Deary fan baitiing' thread.drjohncarpenter wrote:A whole lot of bottom of the barrel suggestions here.
