So the pilgrimage around January 8th started even earlier than after his death. Didn't know that.

Thanks for sharing.

The August pilgrimages didn't start until after his death. :smt003

While all this was going on Elvis the hermit was holed up in a room locking himself away from everyday life. Sad!

No, he was in Denver with his friends. Don't believe everything they put in a he papers, or write in books!

There is a stereotyped view of Elvis holed up in Graceland during his later years - but the reality is he didn't spend an awful lot of time there. LA was his base for a lot of the 60s (understandably) and then Palm Springs/Vegas in the 1970s.

Unfortunately the Vail vacation in 1976 went out of control, so Jerry Schilling quit, saying to Elvis that "friendship is more important than a job". Sonny and Red will find out 5 month later

In the Red West taped phone conversation, they both acknowledged that Vail was a real fun and good time.

For Jerry Schilling it wasn't fun at all.

Thank you for posting the article...we lived in Memphis at the time and proudly dropped our cards in the box.
Any chance that you - or anyone else on FECC - might have articles surrounding ELVIS' 1977 Birthday Celebration in Memphis? We had joined together with Miss March for an ELVIS display in downtown Memphis for what would be the last gathering of fans for ELVIS' birthday in his lifetime.Besides the display of memorabilia and ELVIS music playing throughout the day, Super 8mm films rolling, a box to gather birthday cards and a wall hanging for people to sign their greetings to ELVIS - a huge birthday cake was on display - donated by IGA Grocery stores. The cake was taken to St. Peter's Orphanage that evening where we had a party for the kids.
Beside the display.films and music - I also provided an assortment of ELVIS goodies for the kids including calendars, photos, posters, buttons and booklets.

Does anyone have Memphis Newspaper articles covering ELVIS' birthday from 1977? I would greatly appreciate it if they did and would post them here. I need them for a personal project.

Mr.Moon - are you the same"Mr. Moon" that use to post on the "Insider's" board?

That's a beautiful story, Elvis Fan70. Thanks for posting it.

Unfortunately, at the present moment I don't have articles about Elvis' 1977 Birthday Celebration, but I will keep searching. Should I find something, I will post it here.

As for your question about my username, I'm not the same person you mention. That one was a faker, I'm the real one !

Thanks again, and apologies for the delay in answering you.

I have a bunch more Birthday News Clippings from 1978 to 2015 but they are all with photos of fans at his grave.

Yes your right, Elvis would have been 49 in 84 not 50 as the photo shows, so either the press was off in their print or the fan made tribute was off by a year.

Had to be the Press.
