Don't want to spend any money on poor journalism but I'd like to have a good laugh too.

Wonderful topic there,Robin.
I read mostly Bio's or music related books,or non-fiction.
Will be sure to check out Willie's book
sounds like a good read from what i've heard so far.

Take care and enjoy your week-end!

Lisbon - War in the Shadows of the City of Light, 1939 - 1945. Neill Lochery.

A highly recommended account of Portugal's neutrality during the Second World War, documenting Salazar's careful handling of the Allies and Axis powers. Agents from both sides were busy in the Portuguese capital. A lot of Jews and other persecuted people found themselves in Lisbon during the war before travelling to other parts of the world to escape the Nazis.

Since I got the new TV, I think I need that one! Slacking off on my Kindling! (That YouTube Leanback is TOO addicting.)

But seriously, this one's on the front burner:

Very true. I could be actually reading something, and instead I'm "checking the feed."

Still, the digital life isn't all bad; I think I have read more books since I've had a Kindle than I used to. Sure of it.

I'm reading one about the song "Hallelujah" presently.

Started to read some books but most of the time I can't manage to finish them. No novels though, mostly biographies.

Right now:

The Holy or the Broken: Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, and the Unlikely Ascent of Hallelujah

[Kindle Edition] By: Alan Light
Sold By: Simon and Schuster Digital Sales Inc

Very involving look at how a song's meaning transforms in different contexts.

It is also a good look at the writer.

I'm not done with it yet. Watching too many movies on the SMART TV! (Which may be making me "dumber," since it's cutting into my reading.)

This summer I read "San Miguel" by TC Boyle, "May We Be Forgiven" by A.M. Homes (weird book if you ask me) and "the Women" also by TC Boyle. I love all his books (well the ones I have read so far :) ) I have just started reading "All the Pretty Horses" from 'the Border Trilogy' by Cormac Mc Carthy. Hope I'll find the time to keep on reading once work has started again.
