Ray Walker recalls : He(Elvis) was a little apprehensive. He was a little fearful that the public had forgotten him or that somebody else had taken his place in their minds. So he was apprehensive when he came out of the army,he wasn't hot and ready to take on the world. He wasn't hyper at all.The first thing we did was the Frank Sinatra television show in Miami and that was fun.Elvis was nervous but Frank liked him,and they got along well.Elvis got along well with everybody.***

Executive producer Sammy Cahn can be seen in the image below on the right of frame.

Joe Esposito :On his final visit to Paris in January 1960 I had made all the arrangements and he was impressed with my work that when we were both discharged from the services I was put to work. I became Elvis’ right hand man. The first thing we did,we went to do the Frank Sinatra TV special on Miami Beach,so it was very nervous and exciting.I mean,Elvis was very nervous,as you can tell. When he first walked out you could see he was nervous..I was so excited for me,because this was first big..We had a great time.He loved doing it,and you know because at one time Frank said some bad things about him.****

Mae Axton was invited by Elvis and the Colonel to visit Miami for the taping of the TV special:
"Elvis was excited about being there, but he was almost in awe of Sinatra - and Sinatra was almost in awe of him. They just got along great. Elvis had gooey stuff in his hair, and it was poofed up real big.It was all big and shiny. Rehearsal was actually the fun part. They cut up a lot and did silly things. Too bad they didn't put the rehearsal on TV- outtakes , you know"

ImageImage

Mae Axton:
The Colonel had given people tickets on the condition they would really scream and yell' cause I think he was fearful that folks wouldn't really remember Elvis that well. But he needn't have bothered, when Elvis walked out,the whole place went wild!"

Lamar fike : ' Elvis was pretty nervous about it, afterwards , he said "I wasn't nervous,I was petrified, that's why I was moving and shaking-not from the music"

Elvis speaking at February 25th 1961 press conference,Claridge Hotel,Memphis.
Q : Are you a bit nervous?(About performing on stage)
Elvis : "Yes sir,I don't mind admittin' I am,but when I did that Frank Sinatra show,in Florida,I wasn't nervous..I was petrified! I was scared stiff"(laughs)
Q : Did those people on Frank Sinatra productions, did they give you an ample opportunity to perform there,do you think?Elvis : "Oh yeah, sure, but the moving and the shaking I done on that show wasn't from the music,it was from being scared, but they gave me plenty of time you know, you know.Yes sir, they were very nice"

David, another great topic.

However, you should credit FECC for the Presley band musicians listed.

Two names were unknown for over 48 years until my topics -->

I still hope to solve the mystery of that acoustic bass player, too.

Thanks, David -- currently, there is no credit or FECC link in the current posting.

Please let me know when it gets in there.

I am going to borrow that terrific bass player screen grab, if you don't mind.

Further info

In 1975 ABC destroyed the master videotape to free up space in their storage facilities. Video technicians did their best to improve an inferior copy for use in the "Sinatra - Classic Duets" PBS special.

Malcom Leo talking about 'This Is Elvis'

"The Sinatra Timex show actually came to us through Elvis own collection when we returned from Memphis with a lot of filmed material, there was an unmarked box and it was Elvis copy of the Timex show. We Subsequently got a better copy from an ABC affiliate station,I forget where."

Once more, many thanks Davide for these wonderful pictures and useful comments !
Although he sang only the two songs of his new single, one of these moments of greatness in Elvis career.
Think what it'd have been, if he had done a full hour tv special !
Man...!
