The great singer Bobby "Blue" Bland has died in Germantown, a suburb of Memphis. He was 83.
He was a remarkable singer, who Peter Guralnick credits with reigniting his own career. (In a long blog entry.)
He was an integral part of the Memphis music scene. Here he is with two famous Memphis musicians, to the left of him, looking at the photo:
His style was very conversational, where he dispensed a tender wisdom with deep feeling. Sometimes he argued with himself, weighing reason and emotion. He was one of my favorite singers of all.
