Just for the sake of having a reference point, how many units does a current top artist (i.e. Beiber, Gomez) move in a week?

Re: SoundScan (US) sales-figures

Fri Jun 14, 2013 6:45 pm

Bieber sold 26k last week for his current album. The no1 album in the US this week sold only 91k. The 2nd and 3rd spot sold 61k and 59k respectively.

From Nov 11 to Mar 13 the big E sold an average of 97k albums per month in US. 1.55 million over 16 months; according to soundscan figures.

It makes no sense at all that Elvis on Tour sold 3/4 of it's total last week.

Been a while since I posted not too sure if people are aware that Walmart is blowing out Elvis On Tour DVD's at their stores for $4.00.

Well spotted. How could "On Tour" have sold only 1 483 copies up to June 2013?

That's a good question! It's been out almost 3 years so what's going on?

well you would think that elvis would be in the BILLBOARD TOP 200 ALBUM CHART this Thursday (11th), why?? Because #50 chart placing has a grand total of 6,628 units sold, that`s it, bad week for retail...

Or maybe a bad week for Elvis releases ?

If Sony would push and advertise some of these titles, I would bet some of them would be near GOLD by now !!!

The "Elvis Viva Las Vegas" set had scanned 56,251 copies by 2007.

That was/still is an incredible release, essential in my book.

It's been 6 long years that a sales report has been scanned. Any updates ?

So, Is the single disc version of this re-release remixed double album considered as a separate title from it's original 1973 release ?

If so, 605,837 units sold is pretty impressive.

Considering Elvis' affinity and association with Hawaii and his original fan base, one would think that 1961's, "Blue Hawaii" and 1973's, "Aloha From Hawaii" would have much more unit sales than given credit for. Weird ...

Multi-disc albums are counted once for each disc within the album if it is over 100 minutes in length. For example, each copy of OutKast's 'Speakerboxxx/The Love Below' album (running time of 134:56), and Shania Twain's 'Up' album (running time 145:44), both double albums, were counted twice, meaning each album was certified diamond after 5 million copies were shipped. The 100 minute requirement did not apply to albums released in the vinyl era so double albums such as Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' and the Beatles 'White Album' were counted double even though their running times are under the 100 minute minimum. Two Elvis albums, 'Aloha From Hawaii' (currently 5XPlatinum) and 'Elvis In Concert' (currently 3XPlatinum) were originally released in double album format and received double sales until 1982. Bearing in mind the above Pink Floyd and Beatles albums why haven't the Elvis ones been given the same treatment? It would appear that the reason the 'Aloha' and 'Concert' albums do not qualify for 'double' RIAA sales is that when they were re-released by RCA in 1982 they were placed on one CD each whereas the Beatles and Pink Floyd albums remained as two album/CD packages. Had 'Aloha' and' In Concert' remained on 1 CD post 1982 the former would now have 'Diamond' status and the latter would have current sales of over 6 million. Of course, yet again, some fans would say that sales are not important but getting a good deal is.

Ernst states that double sales for both of the above Elvis albums have been accounted for prior to 1982.

I have read on here many times that Elvis on Tour or TTW didn't make any money so that's why there will be no follow ups. Simple question? How many units do they have to sale to make it profitable? or how much money does it take to make it profitable? Was He touched me profitable? Was Elvis Lives profitable? Don't know, just asking.

The problem with these Elvis DVD's is that "That's the Way It Is" was previewed, or "Premiered" on TV two days before it was released at retail.

A great number of fans recorded the film on their VCR's, DVR's, etc etc ... no need to buy the DVD when then they announced that all that "Bonus" content that was supposed to be included, would not be included !!!

Another slap in the face was especially the three performances from the original movie were shown in remixed/remastered form on TV and not on the DVD !!! :wtf:

As for "Elvis On Tour" ?

Well, most people seem to forget they boycotted the damn thing before it even came out for not including the great "Johnny B. Goode" opening sequence as originally shown/created in the original theatrical release.

What we did get was a sloppy, looped, not so great performance of "Don't Be Cruel" as the opener.

Lots of fans were insulted and protested and for the good this time.
