See see rider VS C C Rider
Which version do u all prefer, the renditions he did mid concerts 70/71 , or the opening versions 72 onwards ?
The image is one thing and the human being is another. It’s very hard to live up to an image, put it that way.

1970!
Those versions kicks ass!
I like the ones from 1972 aswell, after that there are some nice versions but none as good as those early ones.

Re: See see rider VS C C Rider
By far, Elvis' finest live performances of "C.C. Rider" are the handful we have from February 1970 on multi-track, soundboard and audience recordings.dennyelvis wrote:Which version do u all prefer, the renditions he did mid concerts 70/71 , or the opening versions 72 onwards ?

They are both good but I prefer the later versions that opened his show. To me, there is just something about how 2001 flows right into it.

Re: See see rider VS C C Rider
Is it spelled "See See Rider" or C.C. Rider. When I looked on some cds it was both. I picked "See See Rider".

Re: See see rider VS C C Rider
In 1970, RCA (or management) chose the public domain "See See Rider" (with an arrangement credit to Elvis) to avoid paying royalties to the estate of Chuck Willis. The correct title is "C.C. Rider."sheila wrote:Is it spelled "See See Rider" or C.C. Rider. When I looked on some cds it was both. I picked "See See Rider".
Chuck Willis "C.C. Rider" (Atlantic 1130, March 9, 1957)
Billboard U.S. R&B #1, June 17, 1957, Pop #12, July 15, 1957
..
Billboard - March 16, 1957
Note: in his career Elvis would make covers of Atlantic 1117, 1123 and 1130, and record songs by eight of the artists appearing in this ad.

LaVern Baker's 1962 version was also called "See See Rider":

Re: See see rider VS C C Rider
By far, the best version is Feb, 1970 on the "On Stage" album. We get a great solo from James.

Re: See see rider VS C C Rider
Ma Rainey recorded See See Rider Blues in 1925. Having said that, Leadbelly recorded CC Rider in 1935.
