Anthony Perkins "Moonlight Swim"

Thu Mar 28, 2013 5:11 am

That's right, before Norman Bates went Psycho, before Elvis went Blue Hawaii the late Tony Perkins recorded 'Moonlight Swim' in 1957. News to me!

Incidentally one of Tony Perkins' children, his son, is named none other than ELVIS.

ELVIS PERKINS.

"Mother! Blood!'

It was a popular song before Elvis got to it in 1961.

Ihave Tony's full lp with that song on it. The song ultimately belongs to the late Anthony Perkins, who, with this song peaked #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1957 (the same year as Noble

My response is-Anthony Perkins did an awesome job(so far I've just said that he did an awesome job singing this song???) and then I followed that up with-real smooth man, which I thought meant, he sings the song real smooth?? So I think that I'm typing to the "world", which includes you, doc, midnightx and all of the other humans that might be reading. :smt006

It was a light pop song the actor delivered well. But "awesome" No.

That said, of the three known versions (Joel Grey, Ray Noble, Anthony Perkins), Elvis' 1961 master follows Tony's RCA single arrangement. It appears the first version out was by Joel Grey, then Ray Noble, and finally Perkins.

Noble's only reached Billboard U.S. Pop #37 and Grey's missed the Top 40 altogether, despite some ad muscle by Capitol.

Note review claimed Noble was "out first" with this tune; they forgot their August review of Grey's 45.

Tony Perkin's rendition, his maiden RCA effort, reached #24 on the pop charts for exactly one week, its debut on the top 40.

Again, call me psycho, but one listen to the Perkins single proves Elvis closely follows this arrangement:

I still don't understand why you guys haven't commented on the fact that one of Tony Perkins' sons is named Elvis.

I saw Elvis Perkins at sxsw one yr. he was a pretty good singer in his own right. His mother died on 9/11 and he wrote a song Ash Wednesday about it.
