Bob Dylan strikes back!

Thu Feb 28, 2013 12:58 am

In January 1966 Bob was on talkback radio station WBAI in New York alongside Bob Fass and they took calls from his fans. Some were good while some others were pathetic. How weird that an artist like Bob would attract some negative callers (remember this was before the infamous Royal Albert Hall gig). It makes for fascinating listening regardless of whether you're a Bobster fan -

Your welcome. LOL Bob wasn't going to take any crap especially from some of his own fans.

Thanks. Never heard that one before. And yes, the sound quality is incredible, which really draws you in.

I'm not sure what they wanted from him, exactly, except maybe that last guy with the "marches." He was pretty clear. But, otherwise, it was like everyone had all these expectations - and different expectations, and no one could be expected to handle that. One asked him to be "lovable." I can't imagine being asked to be "lovable" or what you'd answer. And the guy with the sister . . . that was weird. "Say 'I'm nice.'" What? But I think he expected some of this, and was prepared to throw them off guard. It was simple: if you like the music, great. If not, he wasn't going to try to justify it. Simple.

I also agree that the music didn't really "change." And hasn't, to this day. It was all rooted: it was American music. Influenced by whatever he felt like exploring at the moment. I don't agree that you shouldn't "think" about songs, but at the time, I can understand that. He was just like "back off."

Fascinating document.
