Guy Harris, James Ausborn and Elvis' first guitar

Hi, guys. I would like to know if Guy Harris and James Ausborn, Elvis' childhood friends, are still alive. Does anyone know? I think James still is but not sure about Guy Harris. Also, last year I found this picture http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0fe ... D/x350.jpg
It "shows" Elvis' first guitar, bought at the Tupelo Hardware. Now I ask: How legit is that? I read once Elvis' first guitar was lost and they didn't know where it would be today, but now I find this. I also read it was sold for a fan. What do you guys know about it? Is the guitar on display somewhere? If it's still around, I think EPE should buy it and put it on display at Graceland or it should be on display at Elvis' Birthplace.

All I know for sure about the guitar in the photo is that I saw it in person at the Smithsonian Wertheimer exhibit at the Grammy Museum in L.A. in 2010. It was a travelling exhibit, and the guitar was one of the few physical artifacts in the photography exhibit. I'm pretty sure there's a controversy about it. But in that glass case, they claimed it was "the" guitar.

Others may be able to give a definitive answer.

Though I felt I was fairly impartial about it the owner, the brother, at the time wasn't all too thrilled. I think he was hoping to get some serious dough for it and wasn't too happy with my opinion. I would've thought that it had more sentimental value to him because it belonged to his brother rather than it was thought to belong to Elvis.

I also heard Sam Phillips say that Elvis had a "Martin around his neck" during the first session. No accounting for memory, so who knows, but Elvis did buy a used piano right after high school. I think he could have found the money somehow if he really wanted to.

In any event, how did it end up in that glass case? I mean, I was there, and it was there. And it was quite an experience, seeing this thing in person, whatever it was. It was really tore up. It looked like the remains of a guitar, rather than a guitar. Whomever had this thing, did NOT take good care of it. Who owns it now?

I would like to have seen that guitar in that glass case, rjm. I’m sure I would have experienced chills just thinking that it might actually be “the one.” Being a romantic, I probably could have convinced myself, even for a few precious moments, that it was…

…and yet, no amount of wishful thinking can make it be “the one.” Proof is needed. Perhaps, I've been watching too many episodes of “Pawn Stars," but I have to defer to JamesVRoy's objective piece.

In the end, this humble musical instrument served its purpose -- and for that we can all be forever grateful.

Both Guy AND James are still with us, I spent some quality time with James last June (2012) and have some wonderful images and things (?) which unfortunately I'm unable to share here.
