"Ellis Auditorium"

Ellis Auditorium was fortunate enough to have had two golden eras. The first was back in the 1920's and 30's, when it was used
Victor and other "field" recording units to record such luminaries as Memphis Minnie, Tommy Johnson, Furry Lewis, Sleepy John Estes,
and Frank Stokes. Ellis Auditorium brought such legendary performers as Katharine Hepburn, Mary Martin, the Russian composer:
Sergei Rachmaninoff, and dancer Isadora Duncan to Memphis.

Focus again turned to Ellis during the 40's and 50's when WDIA, "the "Sensation Station of the Nation" packed the auditorium for
their annual Christmastime fundraiser, the Goodwill Revue. The proceeds established and maintained the Keel Avenue School for
Handicapped Black Children.

The "Ellis Auditorium" was where JD Sumner and Black Wood Brothers presented themselves.
It was the "point" of gospel concerts in Memphis. Elvis never had the money to go, so people
Security let him enter through the back door and there he was watching the presentations.
Elvis also performed there years at 54, 55 and 61.

In 1971, Elvis returned to Ellis Auditorium to receive another award.
All remember the timeless words of Elvis: "Every dream that I've ever dreamed ..."

("Every dream I have dreamed ...")

Before becoming famous Elvis was working as a cinema usher at Loew's in downtown City, from 17 to 22 hours,
but there was little time. Elvis said it was because he was disrupting their studies while the owner of the place
said he had to send him although he did not work because once stood watching movies.

Cine Suzore 2

Elvis loved going to the cinema Suzore 2, where at least watched a movie by week.
I loved Tony Curtis and combed his hair the way the artist much pomade and wore
her blonde hair seemed darker.
It was the most popular among young people ....

Memphian (as favored in the 60's and 70's) Interestingly, the first pic of the Memphian
is actually the cover art of Joe Walsh's 1987 "Got Any Gum?" album:
