Elvis in Vegas 1969 setlist question

Sat Dec 08, 2012 4:31 am

It's my understanding that 11 shows were professionally recorded during Elvis' first las vegas engagemnet; of these six have been officially released to date. If my math is correct, and exluding the "Happy Birthday" performance, a total of 26 different professionally recorded songs are available:

Blue Suede Shoes
Johnny B. Goode
All Shook Up
Are You Lonesome Tonight?
Hound Dog
I Can't Stop Loving You
My Babe
Mystery Train / Tiger Man
Words
In The Ghetto
Suspicious Minds
Can't Help Falling In Love
Runaway
This Is The Story
Inherit The Wind
Rubberneckin'
Reconsider Baby
Funny How Time Slips Away
I Got A Woman
Love Me Tender
Jailhouse Rock / Don't Be Cruel
Heartbreak Hotel
Memories
Baby What You Want Me To Do
Yesterday / Hey Jude
What'd I Say

My question is - are there any other songs found via audience recordings performed as a "one-off" in 1969?

Other than one-liners or short excerpts (such as Whole Lotta Shakin' in the show when Jerry Lee Lewis was in the audience), I think the list you give is correct and complete.

One night late in the season
Love Me late in the season
Loving you - short
It's Now Or Never - short

and wasnt
from a jack to a king and
money honey mentioned in concert years book as being more than one liners performed in 1969?

Wish he had done That's All Right in 1969 other than the Opening Night. Think it would be similar to the 1970 Opening Night Feb 1970 version?

Didn't Elvis include snipets of "Ble Hawaii" and "Viva Las Vegas" at some of those 1969 shows?

Yes, but in no way would it have compared to the '76 versions. Especially if Charlie was holding the mic.

Gives me chills just thinking about it.

Quit it.

I was reading a book a few years ago and it was describing a show and it said he sang "You'll Think Of Me". Don't know how true that could be though.

Better song lists in February and August 1970.

That would make a great track-listing for a helluva new live album.

IMO it's how the tracklisting the In Person Legacy edition should have had.

I'd still love to hear the introduction of Jerry Lee and the Shakin'-one liner. Could somebody send it to me or something?

My understanding is the introduction and one-liner comes from the 8-15-1969 DS.

It is available on three different discs:

Jerry Lee apparently saw both the DS and MS that day, though.

John,..the cover for Up And Running on Elvisconcerts.com
clearly says MS...and so do I..

However,...I am not 100% sure..I have to agree..

Joachim, the website you quote states the 8-15-1969 MS is only known in part from a newspaper review:
http://www.elvisconcerts.com/concerts/Concert_expand.php?id=31

And gives a full set-list for the 8-15-1969 DS:
http://www.elvisconcerts.com/concerts/Concert_expand.php?id=30

It also lists all three CDs on the 8-15-1969 DS page.

John....I need the review to probably change the date from MS to DS.
My source is a person I once asked who owns a tape which was labelled MS but it
could of course be wrongly dated..

Joachim, perhaps the website is incorrect.

I like the 1976 versions, but lets face it - nothing beats 1969-70.

John..it was me who started the cdr section on Elvisconcerts.com and I put the date as DS..ages ago.
Meanwhile I have my own pages and there it has been amended many moons ago into MS after i got the infos about the tape...although still I am not 100% convinced..tapes might be wrongly labelled and I left a little doubt ...look..

If anyone has more infos or the review which is mentioned on Francesc site..please let me know..

Joachim, I am referring to these pages, not your CD-R section:

That`s the database which is grounded on it. Doesn`t matter,...John I have made a thread in my Cisco Corner,..perhaps some day we can shed more light on DS or MS. I tend to say it was a MS cause of the tape labelling..

I have received the following:

hi Colin,

There's a topic on FECC about 1969 concert songs and the Doc and CiscoKing talking about the 15th Aug 69 audience recording available.
Can you please tell Cisco that 'the concert is the dinner show and I know because I have reviews of both these shows and the audience recording
matches the dinner show review'.

Edited to preserve requested anonymity.

That sounds good to me..Colin..please be so kind and tell the guy to e.mail me..

ciscoking@elvisoncd.com

I am not quite pleased with such a general comment..I need the reviews themselves and dates..when was it written..where..and by whom..I cannot change dates by speculation.Thank you very much for your efforts....
