Below are the words as heard on the 1953 Billboard R&B #1 classic, and a bit of history. The lyric in Elvis' RCA single was not entirely written by Jerry Lieber, but "updated" for comic effect by Freddie Bell and the Bellboys. When Elvis caught their act in Las Vegas in early 1956, he absorbed their changes along with the R&B hit he already knew. In particular, this verse was "new":

"You ain't never caught a rabbit, you ain't no friend of mine"

Leiber is on record as stating ""I'd never write such a dumb line."

The reason why i'm asking is that the thread started out as being about Mystery Train. The subject of Hound Dog lyrics did not crop up until 5.40pm. And Delboy posted the lyrics at 6.42pm.

Now, your post which took a "long time to create" was posted just 14 minutes after the one which you are replying to, and only one hour after the subject of Hound Dog was even brought up. Quite clearly your idea of a post which takes a long time to create and everybody elses idea is very different.
