Mystery Train lyrics --> Mystery no more

Tue Dec 11, 2012 6:13 pm

Here they are... :D

Train I ride, sixteen coaches long
Train I ride, sixteen coaches long
Well that long black train got my baby and gone

Train train, comin' 'round, 'round the bend
Train train, comin' 'round, 'round the bend
Well it took my baby, but it never will again
No, not again

Train train, comin' down, down the line
Train train, comin' down, down the line
Well it's bringin' my baby, 'cause she's mine all, all mine
She's mine, all, all mine

Train train, comin' 'round, 'round the bend
Train train, comin' 'round, 'round the bend
Well it took my baby, but it never will again
Never will again
(Ooh, woah)

Below are the lyrics originally sung by Little Junior Parker. It's interesting to see that Elvis made some changes.

Little Junior Parker
Mystery Train
1953

Train I ride, sixteen coaches long
Train I ride, sixteen coaches long
Well, that long black train carries my baby home

Train train, coming on round the bend
Train train, coming on round the bend
Well, it took my baby, it’s gone do it again

Train train, coming on down the line
Train train, coming on down the line
Well it's bringing my baby, 'cause she's mine all, all mine

It's hard to fathom the time that it took to do this. Beyond amazing!

I know this takes some nerve, but is it possible to post the lyrics to "Hound Dog" someday?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure which version you were looking for as there are several out there [two to be exact - The Management] Here are Big Mama Thornton's lyrics as written in the shower ...

You ain't nothing but a hound dog
Been snoopin' 'round the door
You ain't nothing but a hound dog
Been snoopin' 'round my door
You can wag your tail
But I ain't gonna feed you no more
You told me you was high class
But I could see through that
Yes, you told me you was high class
But I could see through that
And daddy I know
You ain't no real cool cat

You ain't nothing but a hound dog
Been snoopin' 'round the door
You're just an old hound dog
Been snoopin' 'round my door
You can wag your tail
But I ain't gonna feed you no more

You made me feel so blue
You made me weep and moan
You made me feel so blue
Well you made me weep and moan
'Cause you ain't looking for a woman
All you're lookin' for is a home

You ain't nothing but a hound dog
Been snoopin' 'round the door
You ain't nothing but a hound dog
Been snoopin' 'round my door
You can wag your tail
But I ain't gonna feed you no more
Send "Hound Dog" Ringtone to your Cell

The lyrics website you copied is incorrect.

Below are the words as heard on the 1953 Billboard R&B #1 classic, and a bit of history. The lyric in Elvis' RCA single was not entirely written by Jerry Lieber, but "updated" for comic effect by Freddie Bell and the Bellboys. When Elvis caught their act in Las Vegas in early 1956, he absorbed their changes along with the R&B hit he already knew. In particular, this verse was "new":

"You ain't never caught a rabbit, you ain't no friend of mine"

Leiber is on record as stating ""I'd never write such a dumb line."

Original lyric, as recorded by Big Mama Thornton:

Hound Dog
Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller
© 1952 Lion Publishing Company, BMI

You ain't nothing but a hound dog
Been snoopin' round my door
You ain't nothing but a hound dog
Been snoopin' round my door
You can wag your tail
But I ain't gonna feed you no more

You told me you was high class
But I could see through that
Well, you told me you was high class
But I could see through that
And baby I know
You ain't no real cool cat

You ain't nothing but a hound dog
Been snoopin' round my door
You just an old hound dog
Been snoopin' round my door
You can wag your tail
But I ain't gonna feed you no more

Aw, play that thing, boy
Aw, you just an old hound dog, a-woof!
Aw, just a hound dog
Aw, hear that old hound dog howl
Ah, tell it like it is!
Ah, make me feel good
Aw, do the mess around
Now wag your tail
Aw, get it!
Aw, get it, get it, get it

You made me feel so blue
You made me weep and moan
You made me feel so blue
You made me, made me weep and moan
'Cause you ain't looking for a woman
All your lookin' is for a home

You ain't nothing but a hound dog
Been snoopin' round my door
You ain't nothing but a hound dog
Been snoopin' round my door
You can wag your tail
But I ain't gonna feed you no more

Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton, "Hound Dog" (Peacock 1612, March 1953)
With Kansas City Bill & Orch., Billboard US R&B #1 April 18, 1953.

What a CLASSIC song indeed, in both Thornton's #1 R&B original, and Presley's #1 rock 'n' roll cover.

Indeed, and Leiber knew the difference between a verse and a line, too.

More of the same from you.

Guess what? That post of mine took a long time to create: with accuracy, details and an uploaded image, all put together in a readable display and after a lot of researching, and all done for the enjoyment of FECC members.

But from you we see, as usual, zero positive input, just a nitpicking complaint serving as a personal attack.

You should do an eBook of all your FECC complaints. It would be hundreds of pages. That should sell loads.

How long did it take to create, Doc? I'm curious.

The reason why i'm asking is that the thread started out as being about Mystery Train. The subject of Hound Dog lyrics did not crop up until 5.40pm. And Delboy posted the lyrics at 6.42pm.

Now, your post which took a "long time to create" was posted just 14 minutes after the one which you are replying to, and only one hour after the subject of Hound Dog was even brought up. Quite clearly your idea of a post which takes a long time to create and everybody elses idea is very different.

The original post took more than an hour.

I am sick of you and your angry attacks. That is all you bring to this forum.

Back to the "Foes" you go. Buh-bye.

I don't play that game. Never have. I contribute.

Please do the same, like perhaps making a comment on the original lyrics to "Hound Dog," or enjoying the YouTube link I posted to the original recording, which is fabulous.

Just because it's freezing today in Zevenhoven is no reason to be rude.

Thank you.
