1956 Bowtie tour

Scotty, Bill and D.J. started wearing jackets and bowties (thanks james) while in Las Vegas and continued wearing those for the rest of the tours in 1956.
So this photo is from after Las Vegas but where and when?

Due to the microphone the October and November tours are out of question as is almost the entire August tour.
Even most of the May and June tours are ruled out due to microphone of clothing.
What is left are the following shows from which we have no onstage photos nor any reviews telling us what Elvis wore:

May 13, St Paul
May 17, Springfield
May 18, Wichita
May 22, Des Moines
June 6, San Diego
June 25, Savannah
August 9, Daytona Beach

The St Paul newspaper states that Elvis came to the Auditorium wearing black shirt and slacks and went onstage wearing his Kelly green jacket. In the bad quality photos from the newspaper it looks like he's wearing a white shirt so maybe he put on a new shirt before going onstage as he did on other shows.
Judge for yourself, isn't that a white shirt:

Please also take a look at Elvis' left hand in the first photo and tell me if you can spot a ring and if so on which finger.

Its not May, DJ either doesn't use a floor tom or uses a white one in all the shots I've seen. I can't swear its not June or July because I haven't seen pics from then where DJ has a matching copper mist floor tom (he doesn't have one June 8 in LA), but he does have it at least in August

He had a white floor tom in Oakland (June 3) and Long Beach (June 7), none in Los Angeles (June and don't know about Phoenix and Tucson (June 9-10)

Doesn't he seem to have a ring on his left little finger? That would definitely rule out May.

The whole kit in Richmond on June 30th was white, not his. They used a rented kit at the Hudson Theatre too and I believe in the studio.

Then by process of elimination that's August in Daytona since that floor tom is his 16"x16" copper mist one.

Yeah, I remember that. I opted to use it on my Orlando page since I didn't have much of anything from there. Brian, what in the photo had you rule out Orlando, did you find pix from there?

Yes James, I have photos from Orlando.
I'm at work right now (have been for 5 hours and have 9 hours left) so I can't check my photos but I THINK it was most likely the microphone that ruled out Orlando as well.

I don't know how I missed your post in the old thread Doc but I believe you were right then.
Everything point to Daytona Beach, August 9 which would make it the first photo we have from there.
The microphone is totally different from the rest of the tour but that doesn't have to mean anything.

Do you agree that Elvis wears a ring on his left little finger in the photo?

Sorry Brian, I was in California when you posted this and never saw it. If this was from the Orlando paper I would suspect its from Orlando. I suppose the mic's from both venues could be similar but lacking any definite photos of Daytona now that makes the original one posted as suspect. They could very well be both from Orlando.

We've probably long since moved on from this topic but recently I got better scans of the article from Orlando from Gail Reaben, she was at the show (and is in one of the pix in the front row) The mic is a lot clearer and I think we were correct about our initial assumption about the photo being from Orlando

No, no new photos from Daytona, or old ones that I know of either. We narrowed the guesses down to either Orlando or Daytona based on clothing, instruments etc and lacking any known shots from either at the time. The microphone type in the original shot in question is clear enough, though not necessarily rare has only shown up in a few venues that we've ever seen pix of. The photo Brian posted though dark showed similarities. These later ones reveal much more detail to reinforce the belief they are the same model and the probability that they are the same venue. Though we believe the assumption to be correct, it still is an assumption but at this point the best one. Do you not agree?

My guess was, but now the photos at least support an assumption. Hopefully at some point some photos from Daytona surface, if even it negates it we will at least have more photos. Somebody somewhere has to have some.
