Hits of the 70's - New FTD!?

Regardless if it should be FTD or not, it is a good release to listen to. However, why was the Raised On Rock single and its B side not included. This is the only single released in the 70's in England not included. It makes no sense that My Way was included but this one was not.

I'm not up on my Elvis chart placings in England, but if memory serves I believe "It's Only Love" (a minor hit in the U.S.) charted at least Top 10 in England. Whether this happened in the '70's I'm not sure.

ENGLAND doesn't have a chart. The UK does but not ENGLAND.

It was 1980 c/w "Beyond The Reef". The single was issued to promote the "Elvis Aron Presley" box set. There was an extended 12" version too.

The flip of the original US single "The Sound Of Your Cry" was also issued as a UK single to promote the album of the same name (UK version of "Greatest Hits Vol.1") c/w "I'll Never Know". Picture discs were also pressed, but the single wasn't a hit.

Wow! It was released much later in the England than in the U.S. That explains why it and Rubberneckin' are included on the marvelous FTD release "Hits Of The '70's."

I'm very fond of the original album, great memories!!

The import cd,a few years ago, was not really the same, but cute all the same.
And now, the FTD,, i like it very much.

I know there are no alternates heard,it's not really a "collectors" album.
And i am a collector who will always prefer something "new".

But now, these are indeed the Hits of the 70's, an ultimate look at that decade.
The masters sound incredible, i've heard things i've never heard before.
It's just a great release, for die-hards and casual fans.

I'm sure FTD will not follow this way always, but this nostalgic release has my highest praise.

No. The booklet states they replaced the original mono mixes used with the stereo mixes.

Nope. You can cling to the presumption that a non-purchase equals the lack of right to complain but really, "we" know better. Besides, my FTD collection is so vast!

FTD should consider issuing "Hits of the 50's/60's" anthologies too.

Collections filled to the brim with masters [sans the My Way fiasco] are clearly all the rage with some folk.

Will you buy them? You won't be able to comment on them if you don't, just bear that in mind - and we'll all bare together.

I personally find it uncreative, lacklustre and - more to the point - unsympathetic to the original album and mixes it is based on.
Oh, and it also includes a blatant track error by including an erroneous "non-single" version of My Way.

A label whose "mandate is to compliment the commercial and artistic level of RCA's retail release schedule by issuing repertoire that is considered of interest to serious Elvis fans and collectors, material that is generally not part of the mainstream RCA label releases to the public at large."

As far as I'm aware, the booklet for Hits of the 70s states that the version included is the June 21st 1977 performance, although as April performance was used. Perhaps someone could verify?

No recording dates are listed for any of the tracks on “Hits Of The ‘70’s”. However, the back cover of the booklet features a full page scan of the 1977 red vinyl single release of “My Way”, which has ‘from the album Elvis In Concert’ printed on the label. Therefore, you would expect that the single version would have been included on this collection as this was the UK hit.

As the earlier recording is listed as a bonus track, I don’t think this can really be classed as an error. My feeling is that as the “Elvis In Concert” recordings have not been re-mastered, the single version of “My Way” was omitted due to sound quality issues.
