45's history

Not really about Elvis; but for some Vinyl collectors (45)s a nice bit of history.

Those 45's seemed fantastic after the breakable 78's. My first copy of Heartbreak Hotel was on a 78 which my sister later sat on and broke :x Many of my other 78's had chips on the edge of the record, so you tried to put the needle on as close to the edge as possible so as not to miss too much of the record. Another thing with 78's was that you had to change the needle for every song played, and at 2 shillings (10 new pence) for a tin, I couldn't afford to do that so I just turned the needle slightly (to get a better point) to make them last for several plays.

45's were heaven in comparason, only in Britain we didn't have the large hole in them.
