Awesome clip appears to be amateur 16mm, as opposed to the Super 8mm we are used to seeing. I would almost bet there is much more than what treat we got to see here.

Thanks for posting! Never would have found it myself. Agreed; it's in excellent quality. The audio is very good along with the video, I think, for an audience recording.

I like the way he puts is hand over his solar plexus when he sings "this emptiness inside me."

That song should have been a hit single; at least he treated it as though it had been.

Thanks again!

Nice. Elvis singing "I'm Leavin'" at the evening performance in St. Louis on Thursday, June 28, 1973.

It may have been a similar set as two nights later in Atlanta:
http://www.elvisconcerts.com/concerts/Concert_expand.php?id=635

The original Super8 film (the YouTube link is from a VHS dub) would yield a very nice image indeed, and is another example of fan concert footage that deserves to be restored, compiled and coupled with the best matching sound audio source. Thirty-nine years is a long time ago.

It's hard to fathom that Elvis had a near-death experience just before or just after this show.

Three of us feel the suit Charlie is wearing is black, THUS June 30 in Atlanta.

But since you interject, do all of us a favor and let us know WHY you chose to contradict this observation.

Thanks.

It was a pretty lengthy set that night:

I'd never heard that Elvis had a near death experience Dr. John. Do you know any more about this please?

Nice footage. Always a favourite song of mine.

He looks great in some of those June 1973 pics. Sure he looks a bit fuller than normal, but he doesn't look unhealthy and it's amazing what a tan can do. One is immediately reminded of his appearance at MSG, but just with a few more pounds.

I've always been sceptical about the 1973 tours. We don't have any soundboards from them, but there have been many fan stories over the years about how great some of these concerts are. I've always found it hard to believe, based on his vocal performances in the Vegas and Tahoe concerts FTD have issued, and the dreadful Stax sessions in July.

It would be nice one day to have a good sounding summre 1973 tour concert issued by FTD.

Either before or after the June 28, 1973 performance at the Kiel in St. Louis, Elvis nearly died of a drug overdose.

"The last nine months with Elvis [1973], we had three ODs; it was unbelievable." ... Vernon Presley, who from other accounts had kept his distance from his son's drug problems, witnessed some of these overdoses, Caughley said, including a near-fatal one in St. Louis.

Yes, and the hardcover first edition isn't too pricy:

Be advised, as the title implies, it's not really a fun read.

Thanks.
This is why: you can clearly see at the beginning of the clip Charlie wearing an outfit with metal rings on the chest, sleeves and pants. I don't have a good photo of Charlie from St. Louis, but here is what James's outfit looked like in St. Louis - it would be similar to Charlie's.

In Atlanta the band wore black, but with NO metal rings. This time there were just studs on the outfit.

Actually, no thanks for interjecting and contradicting everyone else on the topic without providing any information or images.

Thanks is due for replying to my request for more information.

Perhaps next time he will share his research the first time around, as I try to do, instead of having to be prompted. ;-)
