About Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis.

First of all - forgive me my english
I just realised that I really like Jerry Lee Lewis, I'm 19 and i live in Poland (but that's not important ) Elvis is my king and i love everything about Him - and this will never change. A while ago i became interested in JLL. I watched and read a few interviews. I remember that i readed in some book about the incident with drunked Jerry in front of Graceland with a gun - and i thought that i will never like him (but at the time i didn't know his history and music) today i really enjoy listening to his songs and watching him performing them on stage. And he is still singing today I'm really impressed - he's the last man standing. But let's go back to the topic Jerry said in this interviews i have seen that he and Elvis were close friends - is this true ? He said that Elvis called him very often, that they were talking by the phone. And he was saying that the incident in front of Graceland was a misunderstanding. I really want to learn something more about this incident (when it took place ?) and about the relations of Elvis with JLL - can someone help me and "shed some light on that" for me ?

I think Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis did bump into each other a couple of times in the early years and maybe once or twice in the later years.

But i don't know that's it's been confirmed that they even bumped into each other in the later years of Elvis' life.

They were far from friends i can tell you that.

The gun incident i believe was Jerry Lee Lewis getting drunk and then driving to Graceland and threatening to kill Elvis.

The Memphis papers in 1976 said that Lewis got drunk and showed up at Graceland threatning to kill Elvis.
Jerry Lee Lewis saying Elvis invited him to Graceland is just spin after the fact by Lewis.

Let me ask you a question how do you know it's true that Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis got drunk and rode motorcycles together naked through Memphis?

Jerry Lee Lewis has said the whole incident about going to Graceland with a gun was a misunderstanding.

If it were true that it was just a misunderstanding why did the police arrest Jerry.

Why didn't Elvis or Vester vouch for Jerry Lee.

The police arrested Jerry Lee Lewis because he was not invited and he was waving a gun around drunk threatning to kill Elvis.

The police don't take things like that lightly.

Elvis, of course, knew Jerry as far back as 1956, through his ongoing friendship with Sam Phillips at Sun Records, and appreciating Jerry's fantastic work for the Sun label up to 1963, and other labels after that. Presley greatly admired the man's talent, and had many of Lewis' Sun singles at home, perhaps sent to him by Phillips when released.

But Elvis was never pleased enduring Jerry's personal behavior, which could often be brash, and downright rude. He had Jerry over to Graceland in the summer of '57, but was not pleased with how he tried to upstage the host during a jam session at the piano. There's at least one image of Jerry at the piano in Graceland music room, taken from what may be the entryway, you can't really see too much as his back is to the camera.

When Lewis caught two Presley sets at the International on Friday, August 15, 1969, he was anything but gracious when visiting backstage, and Elvis is on record as later saying how much he disliked the kind of person Jerry was in those situations.

Regarding the Memphis arrest incident, it should be said that Jerry was not invited to Graceland in November 1976.

Jerry drove up to the gates inebriated, waving a gun around, and asking to see Elvis. The gatekeeper was advised by someone at the house to call the police, which he did. Now, Lewis never said he "came to kill Elvis." But, allegedly, Elvis called the guard at the gate during the commotion, which he saw from his security cameras, and said "Hell no, I don't wanna talk to him. I'll come down there and kill him!"

The arrest of course made the papers.

Jerry Lee Lewis is known to have had problems with guns.

If i'm remembering correctly he once had a gun in his possesion and accidently shot his bass player.

He is also known for having had problems with alcohol and pills.

It's amazing he's still alive.

The story is very believable.
