I gotta answer this one. Or really, ask more.

I just got 7, on a new laptop, and am very happy. But Vista just DESTROYED my office machine with some sort of update MS sent down the wire, and so is "8" lighter on resources? I heard it might be lighter on resources, since it's intended for tablets, touch, etc. as well as desktops? And how much money is it? It's either get the software, or get new hardware, one or the other. VISTA must die!

Very interested in the thoughts of those here!

he upgrade CD is $89.00 NZ dollars.

Installed Windows 8 Professional last night. Was able to get it for $14.99 with the windows "anytime upgrade" promotion.
It does seem to be a-lot lighter on resources, boot time is significantly decreased, and the system just feels more stable than 7.
Was worried about the removal of the start menu, but the new start screen is actually a ton better in my opinion - and I actually prefer it. The new Windows App store (trying to compete with apple and android) is actually pretty nice.
I dig it!

Downloaded it and will install it later today.
Thanks to the "upgrade checker" I got a notice stating most of the programms I use are compatible or can be upgraded for Windows 8 pro.
