Just watched a James dean film a few days ago (don't know which one) but i have to say it was just a little more than average. I rate some of Elvis' movies higher (esp. King Kreole).

Lou Costello, 1959. Being a kid and a big Abbott & Costello fan, I was devestated for days.

JFK assassination. I remember being sent home from school early that day. Damn that Oswald.

I think possibly Roy Orbison. I would have been 11. I wasn't a fan (never have been), but my brother liked The Travelling Wilburys, and had their first album. That's the only reason I knew who Roy Orbison was.

The first one I ever remember - even to this day - was Ricky Nelson's death on December 31, 1985. I actually located a site a long while back that had pictures of his final concert that night in Guntersville, AL and the motel he stayed at. If I find it, I'll edit my post.

Gary Cooper when I was 15! First heard about it in the cinema on the 'newsreel', that they used to show between the two, yes two, feature films.

Not a celebrity as such, but I remember coming home from school in 1952 (I was almost 7)to find my mum very upset, asking what was wrong she informed me that the King had just died. Making Elizabeth 2nd (Elizabeth 1st in Scotland) Queen.

JFK. I was ten. We watched the news on it in school. It was profoundly heartbreaking. Still remember little John-John saluting as the draped coffin passed by.

First celebrity death that you remember?

Is anyone on this board THAT young? {terribly confused}

Very sad, but you are 10 years old old? I don't understand.

Elvis was the first one. I was 8 years old, and both my parents were fans, so it made quite an impact on me.

After that, Peter Sellers and of course Lennon, both in 1980... and when our Prime Minister, Olof Palme, was murdered here in Stockholm, in '86...

Your math is wrong rjm the topic doesn't say the day you were born, it's the first one you remember he could have been 10 or 12 at the time maybe older.

The first two to really effect me were Jim Jordan in 1988 (he of Fibber McGee & Molly fame) and Mel Blanc the year after.

They were and still are a major part of my life. Their voices are ingrained in my head.

When we lost Fatty Arbuckle, 6-29-1933, that was tough.
