Dwight's back with his first album of new material for seven years and while I wish it hadn't been so long it's worth the wait.A corker of an album from the opening track Take Hold Of My Hand co written with Kid Rock shows right from the off his voice is a strong as ever with typical but heartfelt lyrics on the pain of life and love.Waterfall is one of the strangest songs he's ever written, like a psychedelic nursery rhyme with a chorus that doesn't seem to belong to the lyrics yet Wow,paydirt( see youtube link below with non official but great animated video)
It's an album that has influences from Roy Orbison to The Byrds via The Beatles and Credence Clearwater Revival.Retro but very Dwight. The only cover-Dim Lights,Thick Smoke is a honky tonkin gem that sounds like he actually wrote it.It's just a pity that this will probably be overlooked by American country radio in favour of the latest fakers.
Album of the year.

Looks like it's doing well both critically and commercially (no 18 billboard album charts,no 3 billboard country chart)
Not that charts are that important nowadays.
