My best guess would be late January to early February 1955.
According to the book " A Boy from Tupelo" Elvis played in five different high schools from Jan. 28th - Feb. 4th.

Note Elvis is wearing the same jacket that he wears in Memphis on Feb. 6th.

Cool photo rizzy.
Never seen it before so THANKS a lot.
Yes, Elvis wears the same jacket and shoes as he did on February 6.
As far as I can tell he stopped using thoses shoes sometime during February, so Jan-Feb 1955 would be my guess as well.

Given the basketball hoop present in the picture there are several schools from that era we can likely rule out, one of them being the Gaston School in Joinerville on January 28. That was in an auditorium. see http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=71465

PS. Cool shot by the way, thanks for posting.

That's from the same show Brian mentioned, Feb 6 in Memphis at Ellis.

here's somethin peculiar, or simply coincidental.
Check out the people sitting in chairs behind him this picture. They appear to be wearing similar buttons on theri lapels and that one kid has a carnation and possiblt tie like the one in the original.

I noticed those people as well James but I think it´s coincidental.
The stage is clearly another one as are the chairs the people are sitting on, so maybe another campaign for the election of a High School president.

Question is where and when :?

Let's beat it up a little. I don't have that new Sun book so can't say if a similar shot exists at this venue but anyonewho does may be able to at the very least eliminate some other possibilities.
If we limit ourselves to schools in January and February for the time being we have, to my knowledge:
    January 4
Odessa, TX High School Auditorium (2 shows)
    January 7
Midland, TX Midland high School Auditorium
    January 11
New Boston, TX High School Gymnasium
    January 20
    Leachville AR, High School Gymnasium
    January 28
    Joinerville, TX Gaston School Auditorium
    February 4
New Orleans LA, Jesuit High School
    February 7
    Ripley, MS Ripley Gymnasium
    February 10
    Alpine, TX High School Auditorium
    February 14
Roswell NM North Junior High School Auditorium (2 shows)
    February 16
Odessa TX Senior High School Field House (2 shows)
    February 18
Monroe LA West Monroe High School Auditorium (2 shows)
    February 23
Pine Bluff AR High School Auditorium (2 shows)
given the presence of the basketball hoop which essentially eliminates a stage I'm going to remove Auditoriumms from the list, at least known auditoriums, which leaves:

    January 11
New Boston, TX High School Gymnasium
    January 20
    Leachville AR, High School Gymnasium
    February 7
    Ripley, MS Ripley Gymnasium
    February 16
Odessa TX Senior High School Field House (2 shows)

did I miss any?

Nice work James, where does the January 4 date come from? I haven´t got anything on that date and neither has the SUN-book.

Here are some more High Schools that Elvis played during January-February 1955.

January 17,
Booneville MS, Junior Gollege.
January 31,
Bethel Springs, Tn., Bethel Springs High School
February 2,
Augusta, Ar., Augusta High School
February 3
Aubrey, Ar., Aubrey High School
February 24,
Bastrop, La., Southside Elementary School

With your four dates we have 9 possible dates. Are there any of the new venues that can be eliminated?

SIncerely

The January 4th is one I had that has likely been propogated. If you don't have it I'll assume its in err. I'm only sure about ones I actually did pages for. Of your additions we can probably remove Bastrop and Booneville at least.
Booneville was a proper auditorium
http://scottymoore.net/booneville.html

Bastrop was on a stage in the cafeteria
http://scottymoore.net/bastrop.html

that would for the time being leave us with
    January 11
New Boston, TX High School Gymnasium
    January 20
    Leachville AR, High School Gymnasium
    January 31,
Bethel Springs, Tn., Bethel Springs High School
    February 2,
    Augusta, Ar., Augusta High School
    February 3
    Aubrey, Ar., Aubrey High School
    February 7
    Ripley, MS Ripley Gymnasium
    February 16
Odessa TX Senior High School Field House (2 shows)

I communicated with the principal at Ripley and he said theri gymnasium doesn't date back that far. Its unclear right now though if he meant its newer and can't be verified, or just not possible because there was none. The pix I've seen of gyms at Leachville and New Boston don't reveal much at this point.

Re: 1955 new to me

I'm going to rule out Leachville too. Here is a shot in the gym for 1960 which hadn't changed much in the '50s. the equipement and cinderblock decor don't really match

Ripley is still in the running. The gym that was there is no longer so there was no way with that source to confirm.

OK, that's Mike Freeman's site. He used to own the Audubon Dr. house. He wrote Memphis, Elvis style I believe it was called.

Brian, we'll get it sooner or later. Something will break.

Thanks for the link to the page where you found the photo.

I don´t have time to read it this weekend as I´m going to Denmark for a family-reunion but I noticed that under the photo it said Messick High School Annual 1955.
Could this be another drive for Bob Neal´s son´s campaign to be elected high school president??

Have a nice weekend.

That would explain the similar badges though they're evidently done on different days and different parts of the school.

Thanks James, that´s so cool to know this photos is also from Messick High School.
So Elvis played there twice and most like for the same occasion which was to campaign for Bob Neal´s son to be elected H. S. president.
