Elvis - Fun Facts

When Elvis released 'Stranger in my own Hometown' on the 'Back in Memphis' album in 1969 the then Mayor of Tupelo (Thomas Unwin Pelo) issued a writ against Elvis claiming that this inferred Elvis' home town was Memphis when it was in fact Tupelo. The case was settled out of court and the Mayor settled for a signed picture of Charlie Hodge. More to follow.

Elvis' Manager 'Colonel' Tom Parker is not an actual Colonel. Elvis scholars and even fans have known this for years. However, this fact deluded a lot of fans including Elvis himself who always dressed in full military uniform when meeting his Manager.

Elvis' 1961 album 'Something for Everybody' was banned in Australia because it didn't address the Aboriginals.

Elvis never attended a World Cup or an Olympics. His disdain of public hero worship wasn't just linked to sport, he never attended the Oscars or Grammies either.

Elvis never had a Twitter account.

[Twitter wasn't invented then - The Management]

I know. It's still funny though.

Charlie Hodge wasn't so named because his dad was a cocaine addict. He was meant to be called 'Barley' but his mum was dyslexic.

The original 'FECC' title was based around the concept of 'For Elvis Comedians Collectively'. However, most of the fans were Elvis CD collectors not comedians. So, faced with the concept of naming the site 'FECDC' or 'FEVDC' ( for vinyl fans) the Management stuck to their original choice.

Sherril Neilson was Christened 'Shril''. However, his parents found this name a bit girly so his they renamed him in accordance with his manly voice and dress style.

Gladys Presley was so appalled when Elvis came home crying that the media were calling him 'Elvis The Pelvis' that she took a loan out to help him have a hip replacement operation.

Elvis took out a sixty year mortgage on Graceland, clearly demonstrating his career insecurities. His final payment is due sometime in 2017.

Like the Queen, Elvis never carried cash. He was only able to board the flight to Washington DC to meet President Nixon by giving an impromptu concert in the Memphis International Departures hall. The concert was taped and is in a private collectors hands.

Elvis' 'dislike' of seafood is an urban myth. In fact the rarest Elvis recording is the 1968 EP 'ELvis Sings for Crabs and Sea Bass Too'. This rare recording contained 'Crawfish', 'Song of the Shrimp', 'We're Comin' in Loaded' and 'Do the Clam'. It's said to be worth $120,000.

The Sundial 'Pizza' suit is based on an actual pizza. Elvis and Linda were laying in bed one night in 1974 watching Kojak when Elvis accidently spilt his extra large pepperoni on his pyjamas. Linda wanted to call the dry cleaners but Elvis simply called Bill Belew, had the pizza stain covered in gold leaf and the rest is history.

Elvis had a lifelong fear of turkey, having been attacked by one at the Tupelo State Fair in 1947. Since then he only ever ate Nut Roast at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was whilst telling this story to Paul McCartney in 1965 that the former Beatle converted to vegetarianism.

Elvis' favourite type of ungulate was a pig. His favourite type of poultry was a chicken. His favourite dinner whilst watching 'Happy Day's was Chicken and Pork Roulades.
