Not pullin' any wool. Not tying to "fool" anybody.
For years, some of my tastes and things I muted or hid, thinking that somebody would think that I don't know who I am, or that I think I'm Elvis, or something stupid like that. But when my guard was down or I wasn't paying attention, they'd come back out (I only say that because it's been mentioned to me, it used to frustrate me like crazy ). Over the years, I got to thinking - Elvis had no monopoly on anything he did, and if something I'm doing naturally on or offstage makes people think of Elvis, that's their thing.
My new album is, in my opinion, making some strides to finding more my own sound. My tastes are ever-expanding, and I'm finding myself more comfortable with branching further out. I did Elvis shows for 22 of my 25 years and as a child was crazy about Elvis since before 11 months old (I did have one Kiss album, though lol), so that's got a huge part in shaping my singing and performing style - as well as many of my personal tastes.
But it wouldn't be smart to fight it, force a whole different route on myself just so others will see it or me differently. That wouldn't be me any more than what some people's perception of what I'm doing now is. I figure if Eminem can't get out from under the shadow of Elvis Presley, I haven't got a prayer in hades, lol!
So I'm just doing to do what feels right to me, follow my gut instincts, and if people want to make assumptions, then they'll just have to do that. I will, as I'm doing now, take the good time to explain since it's certainly not the norm and first appearances can be decieving - I understand that. But if I can't change it, I simply say that anyone is welcome to their opinion, and some are more based on fact than others. (this last line isn't aimed at you, I'm speaking generally, just wanted to be sure you knew)
Oh, and just a quick thing - don't pay attention to my website currently, if that's where you're coming from, that's going through major changes.. I'm just REALLY slow. Everything in the "Elvis Performer" section and all pictures regarding it are coming down, and my CDs and those shows will be prominent.
Hope that helps a bit.
ELVIS TO THE MAX WAS FANTASTIC!!!

That means a lot, Sam. I am, first and foremost, an Elvis fan. If we listened to the naysayers, none of us would be here. (which might make Jordan's and Willem's moderating jobs easier)
Some things are just more "out there" than others though, and the difficulty and/or reluctance to let that in is very understandable.
After all, if everything was easy, life would be pretty boring.
Oh, yeah, and that's a good song, too, Sam! You should see The Nelsons sing that, they do a great job.

No. when he talked and tried to talk like Elvis that's not as a tribute artist - that's as someone trying to impersonate him.then he talked to the crowd. of course, this is an Elvis tribute artist, so he had to act like he was EP, which i thought was a bit weird.
A tribute artist wouldn't have taken the piss like that, they would have paid tribute to Elvis instead.
All impersonators of Elvis are not paying tribute to him by default.
