Re: 1968,whats happening here?
Yepp, Elvis singing different text to the song of It Hurts Me and mocking The Colonel in his own birthday party, which I think was very daring. Then again, I find it peculiar that grown men celebrate their birthdays with people outside of their spouses and children and parents, so what do I know
But the text was apparently:
It hurts me
to see the budget climb up to the sky.
It hurts me
when Finkel gives me trouble.
When I see all my money go
just for one g***damned ol' tv show,
it hurts me
the way that Finkel spends my dough.
The whole town is talkin',
they're callin' me a fool
for listenin' to Binder's same old lies.
Finkel calls me, says I've got no choice
then hangs up the phone in that damned Rolls Royce.
It hurts me
when my tears start to flow.
They promised me sure
if I would give in
that I would, that I would
never go wrong, but tell me the truth
is it too much to ask
for one lousy, tired ol'
Christmas song.
As far as I know only the pictures exists of this event; don't think any tape recorders were recording nor any video recording being done - sadly.

Re: 1968,whats happening here?
The birthday party for Tom Parker on the NBC Burbank set was done on 6-26-1968 (Wed), his actual day. He was 59 years old. IIRC, the photos and lyrics appeared in a JAT photo book. The idea was driven by the show writers and producer Bob Finkel, and maybe director Steve Binder. Naturally, Elvis was game.FatherJack1980 wrote:Yepp, Elvis singing different text to the song of It Hurts Me and mocking The Colonel in his own birthday party, which I think was very daring. With Tom Diskin, Tom Parker, Steve Binder and Bob Finkel at NBC Burbank - Wednesday, June 26, 1968
Wouldn't it have been neat if someone like Bones Howe had been rolling tape when Elvis sang that "It Hurts Me" parody?
