The photo shows Elvis with a borrowed acoustic, and it does not appear to be in Shreveport, but the banner indicates this is a Hayride-based tour. It may not even be from June. Where is bripet56 when you need him? This rare item is an original photograph that dates to June of 1955 and was taken at the Louisiana Hayride show sponsored by Radio Station KWKH. This is the image of Elvis Presley with his guitar. This measures 3-1/2" X 3-1/2" and the photo is in excellent condition. The image is very clear on the face and body, the guitar and hands are a little blurry as he was moving when the photo was taken. This is guaranteed to be an authentic original photo of Elvis in the day, not a reproduction or anything else.

Re: NEW Louisiana Hayride 1955 Photo
"June * 55" on the photo border just indicates the processing date the photo was developed.

Re: NEW Louisiana Hayride 1955 Photo
Looking at the photo again, and using some research, it's clearly from 4-02-1955 at Houston's City Auditorium:
- it's a remote "Hayride" appearance, as per the KWKH banner above Elvis, Scotty Moore and Bill Black
- Scotty is playing his 1952 Gibson ES 295, which he only used until early July 1955
- the lip of the stage and the microphones are a match for his April 1956 appearance at Houston's City Auditorium

Here's what Guralnick and Jørgensen's Elvis Day By Day wrote about this appearance:
Looking closely, that borrowed acoustic Elvis is using appears to have "TIBBY" emblazoned on it, just below his right arm.
If so, that means Presley is using Edwards' instrument for his set. Cool stuff.

Louisiana Hayride, from the City Auditorium, Houston, Texas
Elvis appears on a Hayride remote broadcast with Slim Whitman, Hoot and Curley, Johnny Horton, Tibby Edwards, Floyd Cramer, and others. He performs "Little Mama," "That's All Right," "You're a Heartbreaker," and "Shake, Rattle and Roll." Billboard reports on June 4 that 2,000 people were turned away from this performance and that Elvis and Slim Whitman both tore the house down.

Thanks. I'm trying to keep things as accurate as possible.promiseland wrote:Excellent Doc!!!
It is sad how unexpected finds like this shot, coupled with the information I dug up, get less of a response than a candid from twenty years later.

Elvis did two shows in Houston's City Auditorium on Saturday, April 21, 1956. Later that night, he and Scotty jammed with R&B guitarist and singer Lowell Fulson. Elvis was a huge fan of his 1954 R&B hit "Reconsider Baby," and would record a stunning version of his own in Nashville almost exactly four years later.
