New photo to my eyes. "Several days"? IIRC, he was there overnight and released.

I have checked Guralnick and Jorgensen's "Elvis - Day By Day", and this would be the exact cronology - but did he go to the hospital on the 14th or on the 15th ?:

May 14 – Tuesday
While working on the dance sequence, Elvis aspirates a cap from one of his teeth.

May 15 – Wednesday
Elvis has the aspirated cap removed from his lung and is visited in the hospital by Anne Neyland.

May 16 – Thursday
Elvis is released from the hospital on the same day that Gladys and Vernon move into Graceland.

And I like this very cool gesture from our boy :

May 17 – Friday
Elvis writes to the staff of the Cedars of Lebanon Hospital:

Dear Friends,
I want you to know how very much I appreciate your very wonderful treatment while I was there. When I went in I was all shook up but I left loving you.
Thanks a million. My best to all.
Sincerely, Elvis Presley.

Here's the chronology:

Elvis went in on May 15 (Wed) and left on May 17 (Fri).

Here's a May 18th AP report, published the next day:

You know, I had a feeling that I actually did remember that photo, somehow.

I just realized where:

Pretty cool, eh? He really looks like James Dean in this shot. It's one of the first really great Elvis bootleg LPs, too.

Have in my collection Trude Forsher (Elvis personal secretary) original notes/shorthand , scanned this note that says "found in the lungs took it out" and on the reverse "may 15th"

Thanks for the clipping. This makes things much clearer. It looks like the book has the events moved one day earlier than they actually happened. If he was "rushed" to the hospital on Wednesday, this may mean it was on that same day that he swallowed the cap, not on Tuesday. So he stayed two nights at the hospital. I thought it was the note accompanying the photo I posted that was wrong, not the book.

Yup.

Note it seems Tuesday was the day the cap was swallowed, but he did not go to the hospital until the next day.

Further information :
Elvis was in place for the Housing project/skiploader scene on Wednesday, May 15th. Although Elvis had a problem with his tooth cap whilst shooting the 'Jailhouse Rock' production number on Tuesday the 14th - the shooting log states that on the 15th, filming started at 8.55 am for scenes 1/2/3 (Housing project), then scene 9a and 21a were shot, before the doctor was called and filming finished at 3.25pm. The 16th shoot did not happen 'E.Presley ill'.
Note - the first photo of Elvis leaving the hospital has been previously posted by Hilton 22000.

Thanks
David

I didn't post the photo because of it rarity, but because of the value of the document. I like this kind of stuff, and other members may like it too.

Another one from the same day (the photo, and most of the caption, are the same as used in the clipping posted by davide) :

HOLLYWOOD, May 17.
PRESLEY MAKES GRAND EXIT FROM HOSPITAL.
Elvis Presley is a popular man with the nurses as he leaves Cedars of Lebanon hospital today after an emergency operation to remove a dislodged dental cap that wedged in a bronchial tube. A corps of nurses appeared from everywhere as Presley, wearing a blue silk shirt and fire red zipper jacket, walked from the hospital to his Cadillac. The dental cap had dislodged Tuesday while Presley was doing a dance sequence at MGM studio. The nurses are Beverly Altomore (left) and Elissa Martyn.

Elvis showing nurse Beverly Altomare the front tooth from which a dental cap came off and dropped down his throat. The cap lodged in Presley's bronchial tube, leading to the right lung ,and had to be removed with a bronchoscope.

The former "Cedars of Lebanon Hospital" building is currently owned and used by The Church of Scientology to house Scientology "Seaorg" members.

Is it known when Elvis had caps placed on some of his teeth in the fifties and by which dentist this was done?

Thanks for the post, Jove. Yes, that's one of the nurses in the previous pic.

He didn't have a second of privacy, it seems...

If you compare this recent pic with the one in the first post, from 1956, you will notice that they have not used a real perspective, but one that "enhances" the building to make it look bigger than it is.

This is truly laughable, and scary, stuff, man.

I would rather deal with Colonel Parker...
