Is the fella on the left handing him a parking ticket ? Also, is he the same old fella who appeared on EOT (ya know...the old man in Cleveland) ?

It may be his friend, Memphis Police Sgt. Fred Woodward.

The photo was one of many taken by Lloyd Shearer in late July 1956, on assignment for Parade magazine.

Elvis is not on Beale Street. I believe he is just outside Jim's Barber Shop on 201 South Main Street.

Cleveland? I always thought that was in Dayton.

Certainly not the same old chap from EOT, and, as Doc pointed out, not on Beale Street. South Main.

It doesn't appear to be Sgt. Fred Woodward but it was indeed taken on South Main Street.

Perhaps on the same day as this visit to Jim's Barber Shop on July 20th, 1956

Love that site. Interestingly, the photo may be actually from January-February 1958, as the film seen on one of the marquees, "All Mine To Give" went into general release that month. At the earliest, the photo is from mid-December 1957.

Thanks for the link to that site. Magnificent!

And I found this odd one, that I had only read about. Look at the Marquee. This was after the assassination.

It's not until you see the photograph that realize what kicked Greil Marcus in the chest about it. Wow.

Thanks rjm.

That's an impressive photograph.

You can almost feel the silence.
