Another fascinating article, thank you for the upload.

It appears by what is written that Paul Denis had at least a little help from RCA publicist Anne Fulchino. And how interesting the entire thing reads as a PR lesson plan for Ann-Margret. The long arm of management is all over this article, and perhaps also meant for Elvis to read.

The full page of color photos are terrific, and I've not seen them before. It is so obvious there is more to the eye than two actors playing a part. Note also the images are reversed. Here's the correct view:

Of note in the piece:

- the "tall lanky cousin" referred to as "Gene" could not be the diminutive Gene Smith -- who was it?
- he is "taking acting and dancing lessons"
- a mention of Priscilla Beaulieu, living at Graceland and "close to 19"
- someday "he will make gardening a hobby"
- "Life is so much more exciting at night. If I had my way I'd sleep most of the day ..."

Thanks again.

It's a limited cast from which to choose. Junior, the obvious choice, was already dead.

I agree that Gene was not tall ... maybe Denis was small himself?

Great post, the Fool, thank you.

I must admit I just read the article after posting it here. I thought those colour photos made it worth posting it here. But now that I read it, I thought it was really interesting.

"And what about friends you can´t trust? . . . That´s something else that makes you mad . . ." I´m reminded of Johnny Rivers and Memphis, Tennessee.

But then... "I´m never bored when I´m watching tennis, golf, football, soccer or any sport like that." Really? Soccer? Did Elvis watch soccer on TV? I don´t think so. As a soccer coach, I would like to believe that, but I find that hard to belive.

Gene and Elvis had a falling out in 1962, and wasn't around at the time of the interview, likely done in March-April 1964 when Presley was in Hollywood, filming "Roustabout" for Paramount.

If we can see some photos of his entourage from this period, the "tall, lanky" fellow is likely the "Gene" in the article. Whoever he may be, he sure is talkative!

I tend to agree. There is a possibility he mentioned the sport as a nod to his European fans, or perhaps a recent newspaper headline had caught his eye.

SCANDAL IN SOCCER GROWS IN ENGLAND
Monday, April 13, 1964, New York Times

SHEFFIELD, England, April 13 (UPI) -- Everton, the defending English Soccer League champion, tonight sidelined its star player, Tony Kay, pending a police investigation into charges that Kay and two other players had "thrown" a match.

As for Rivers, Elvis was about to have a very bad surprise, driving into work one morning and hearing his good friend's new Imperial single on the AM radio.

Gardening? Mess around in the kitchen, become a "gourmet"?

Elvis, gardening, and cooking? I mean, ok, soccer I can understand. There was soccer in the '60s, I'm sure, on U.S. TV. (And he was in Germany for a while.) But as cook and gardener? :wtf:

Yes, written as a PR piece, but very oddly, since it is written TO a specific person. I guess maybe it was his idea to tell her this way, but on the other hand, he didn't dictate this message.

Another great find!

Great stuff. Those publicity photos are previously unseen by me too I'm sure.
