No, this is a photo likely taken by Elvalee Donaldson of the Lakeland Ledger, backstage at the Polk Theatre on Monday, August 6, 1956. Landis Fleming and Art Perkins of the Ledger were also there.

---

It's worth noting that TV Guide's Paul Wilder would visit later that day to tape his infamous interview, one where Elvis is audibly pissed off at the way he is being treated in the press. It doesn't hurt that the singer is goaded by Wilder, reading Herb Rau's scathing column in the August 4 edition of the Miami Daily News.

Excerpts from this would be issued on RCA's promo-only EP release to radio stations in September:

Yes, backstage at the Polk in Lakeland like they've said.
Cool shot, I don't believe Elvalee took it though. She only mentioned taking the one on the stairs.

All the backstage photos in that spotted shirt are likely by Elvalee. Her August 7, 1956 article notes how Elvis thought she was just a photographer when she came up to him backstage, not a newspaper reporter wanting an interview. He apologized for his rude behavior because of the mistake. And although the scan I have is poor, you can just make out that she is credited with both the backstage shots in this shirt ("... took both pictures") which the paper used.

So, from the Lakeland Ledger, the likely image credits are:

Elvalee Donaldson = backstage photos in spotted shirt, and photos of fans lining up out front
Landis Fleming = photos of fan Ginger Harrell, freshman at Lakeland High School, meeting Elvis
Art Perkins = photos of Elvis on stage

It's a logical assumption John, but I tracked her down a few years ago and introduced that photo on the stairs she sent me along with a copy of the autograph signed "Pelvis". She said he thought she was just a fan waiting for a picture not exactly a photographer or the press. As far as I know the only one(s) she took was that one which he posed for. There were others from the paper(s) covering it though, like Perkins. It could be anyone really. Its interesting though that the whoever hosted it, the grandson, said that the photo was autographed on the back. They would have had to have access to both a print of the photo and Elvis later on for that to happen. Just how she happened to be backstage at all suggests some type of association with someone connected.
The paper though credits her (both photos) with another photo backstage and the crowd out front (the one one supeimposed over the other). The rest are just credited Ledger Photos

Not sure what you mean by your comments, as they echo what I posted.

All I can add is it doesn't seem likely she only took three photos.

Basically I'm was rambling that personally I agree that it was "possible" she took the photo but not "likely" because she never mentioned it to me. Then for posterity I posted what I had of the articles that were marginally more legible. Her credits appear to be noted as "Ledger Photo D"
