That is one of the best later-period photos I have ever seen. Reasonable sideburns, a little ear showing, and appearing healthy in the face.stayawayjoe001 wrote:Nassau Coliseum Uniondale

Nice photo from one of Elvis' finest pair of late-period shows (Uniondale, NY - Saturday, July 19, 1975, afternoon and evening). IIRC, your shot is from the evening performance.

By the fall of '75 Presley had lost his looks! This was the last time he looked god like!

Great pic.
The difference between this tour and the next one in March '76 is just plain crazy.

Great shot. Thanks for posting. What happened between summer/winter 1975 is anyone's guess. He went into freefall. All after the completely unnecessary surgery.

Re: July 19 1975
Here's the thing though - for a short time after the surgery, he really did look much better, younger looking - refreshed. The way he looked in Dec - March 76 had nothing to do with the surgery, but was his lifestyle catching up with him. On that July tour, and in Vegas in August, he looked much better than he had earlier in 75, late 74.All after the completely unnecessary surgery.

July 19, 1975 is one of the shows I attended- here is a scan of my last unused ticket from the afternoon show.

How did your experience on July 19, 1975 compare to seeing him at MSG in June 1972? Or Pittsburgh on December 31, 1976?Greybeard wrote:July 19, 1975 is one of the shows I attended- here is a scan of my last unused ticket from the afternoon show.
These are each considered important, later-period Elvis shows.

Re: July 19 1975
Doc- these shows were exciting. I walked away fully satisfied in what we witnessed-especially the "extra added" and spontaneous songs he did at these events. Very cool to be present for.How did your experience on July 19, 1975 compare to seeing him at MSG in June 1972? Or Pittsburgh on December 31, 1976?
Due to the fact that the internet did not exist Elvis' decline unfolded much slower to those who only got to see him once or twice a year. or even every other year. These were my first events since the Long Island 1973 shows so I was happy with the concerts. The change really became apparent to me in 1976 at Buffalo and then Philadelphia. There was a much more obvious weight gain and energy was way off in these shows. The performances were very lackluster in comparison to what I had seen.
As I have said Pittsburgh NYE made me feel things were back on track to an extent. Then news trickled in from friends who saw other shows. By the time I saw him in Philly in 1977 I can recall looking through my movie camera lens while he was ending "Can't Help Falling In Love" and thinking that I couldn't bear to see him like he was. I doubted I would effort to see another show. Unfortunately fate made that decision for me as I would never again have such an opportunity.

Re: July 19 1975
As in the http://www.elvis-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=57206 thread (Ashville - July 23rd 1975) I can't see the TIF-files. Is it just me or are there other people who experience the same problem?
You know, that version of "Dixie" and uh, the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," it's so beautiful!
The band he's put together is so over-the-top, and only Elvis would have that kinda spending power, and just audacious craziness. Choirs, and orchestras, and a great rhythm section, maybe another gospel group on the side. None of it makes sense until you suddenly hear something like that, and they're all playing a role in that, and it's very moving music. That's the pure joy of music in the man. You know, that's when I see everything stop.
